Trump to Declare National Emergency

They are pulling out all the stops but it may be too late. You can not unring a bell.He (Trump) should have done this much earlier.

President Donald Trump plans to declare a national emergency on Friday over the coronavirus outbreak, invoking the Stafford Act to open the door to more federal aid for states and municipalities, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Trump is under increasing pressure to act as governors and mayors nationwide step up actions to mitigate the spread, closing schools and canceling public events. The president said he will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. in Washington.

The move would allow the government to martial additional resources to combat the virus, and also marks a symbolic turning point for the president, who has repeatedly compared the coronavirus to the seasonal flu and insisted that his administration had the outbreak under control.

Not sure if he should have done this sooner, but it looks like he will discuss this at 3pm today.
One thing about the Stafford Act is that after Katrina they made changes to it to protect firearms possession during a time of an emergency.

    The Act says:
Firearm policies prohibit the confiscation of firearms for any reason other than failure to comply with federal law or as evidence in an investigation. It also prohibits the forced registration of a firearm for which registration is not required by any federal, state, or local law.[2] The Title also lays out the rights and legal framework for citizens who feel their gun rights have been violated during a time of emergency.

It is under control in as much as it can be.  The virus was spreading around the globe before we even knew to be concerned about it.   It was already here in the US before people starting yelling to shut down travel.  It's a virus, it's not an invading army that you could have seen massing to invasion.  Who exactly "rang the bell"?

Fed dropped rate yesterday... dow sank... Same thing here probably. Nothing to do with economics in which people EXPECT the govt to help them get their money back . There may be later some sort of stimulus package to try and keep business's afloat.

It was delayed because President Trump was not prepared to shut down international traveling and  the loss of Business Revenues. This is not the first pandemic in History and  scientist told him before hand of this grave threat, it may cost him the election, sorry that is the reality of it.
I did not want the Democrats to win because of gun control legislation but Trump may have shot himself in the foot  on this one issue.

Cost Trump the election: Pure BS
I guess open borders and bringing those infected into the USA to reap free medical care is a much better solution and forcing domestic airlines to continue flights into areas of mass viral infestations or face charges of violating civil rights  and charges of institutional racism if they stop flights...........because that is what you would get with the DEMOCRATs.

    Serf,

Trump didn't cause the virus, or cause it to spread.  The Democrats didn't want him to close the boarders, and still don't, but at the same time are saying he waited too long...good grief.

Back when this virus was starting to become an issue the Democrats were too bust trying to impeach him for nothing.  That sucked all the air out of the room, and it was the only thing the Media would give attention too.  Now they can turn their attention to this so called "Pandemic", and try & make it look like it was all Trumps fault.

Just watch how the media is trying to make this situation out to not have been started in China.  They are trying to steer the blame away from China, and make anyone who says its their fault to be racist.  They are buying into China's propaganda.

Don't be one of the sheep.

If people die,they/us have  to blame it on somebody and we can't dethrone The Chinese dictator in China, can we? Trump was too slow and he even said it was no big deal in the beginning, and he had it under control. His own big mouth along with his twits is his worst enemy. He is too quick in thinking out loud to the media. It's his Achilles heel in my opinion.

By the powers granted to me by Gun Broker, I am declaring a forum emergency. Serf, you are hereby limited to one virus thread per day in GD and the Politics forums. I see that you already have a thread in each of those forums, so you are finished until midnight EDT (which is Gun Broker time). I am sending this message to you in a PM, but I know that you're reading this. Failure to comply will result in your account be locked. Unless there is an outpouring of sympathy from the membership, the lock will probably be forever.

I am thinking Trump has his ducks in a row.  Using the power that goes with the office. Now if the economy goes haywire and folks get out of work... well then he will do what FDR accomplished putting folks to work doing intra structure in this country rebuilding bridges or putting them to work building factories. They will work or not eat.

Unfortunately, our Economy is going to take a mojar hit. Thanks so much, China.

Never underestimate the American drive. Sure a lot of freeloaders getting checks but that will come to a screaming halt when auditing money spent happens. Financial cuts. Funny how when the country is running 110 per cent folks get complacent. Sorta like working overtime and spending that money as fast as it is made. Well 40 hours a week may look great in a few months to some.

Trump does have an unfortunate habit of exaggeration and hyperbole. He called this a "hoax" when "overblown account" would have been much more accurate. There's no telling what will transpire between now and election day, but much tighter immigration, border control, and robust economic recovery measures may save his bacon.

I don’t see where you get that. You are putting your own spin on it.

Is it possible for you to respond to another member without provoking them? Tacking on: "Because you know better" is unnecessary. I already tossed Penguin out of the forum because he couldn't get along with the rest of the kids. You've been on my radar for a long time...too long.

Mark, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers I hope you don't act to hastily. Some people make stupid statements just to rile up the board or parrot unfounded theories that they find on the web without any thinking of their own. Most of the time I don't think Barz falls into these catagories. While I don't very often agree with him, some of his posts and the discourse they generate do make me think. It is not very stimulating to only have discussions with people that all have the same viewpoint. Yeah, he could turn down his superior attitude a bit but this is the internet and I don't find ignoring it terribly difficult. Just my 2 cents. Bob

Don't take that condescending tone with me again...ever. The staff determines the posting guideline, not the membership.

A two week suspension may change your point of view.

Dog gone it Barz. Thanks for making me look like a fool by sticking up for you. I mentioned your superior attitude can be irritating but at least you thought out your postings. Poking the bear neither shows superiority nor much in the way of thinking before you post. You are on your own.Bob

I think Trump took the correct approach.
IIRC when the swine flue hit, obama didn't do anything until around a thousand people were dead.
    Just sayin'
Trump said with declaring a National Emergency, that gives access to $50 million or billion dollars of aid.
Wow, so where did that money come from ......... just lying around on a ledger?
I think he took the correct approach also. As for the 50 Billion, when your government has had to borrow Trillions to keep functioning, another 50 billion is just small potatoes. At least some of it will go for a worthwhile program and not some politicians pork barrel projects. Bob

Well, we haven't seen the entire bill for authorizing funding so can't say with 100% certainty.  Apparently the initial bill included funding for abortions....so we will see.
Well I did qualify my statement by saying some of it. Even I am not naive enough to believe none of it will be wasted.🤔 Bob
