I just picked up a new knife and I absolutely love this thing. For a sub $50 knife I don't think you can do any better than this. In just a short time it has become my favorite in my collection. It's the Gerber Prodigy full straight blade, which apparently is not in production any more (only the version with the partial serration is).  Based on the reviews I'm seeing either version will do you well, I'm just not a huge fan of a serrated edged blade for a multi-duty tool.

I can not tell you how comfortable this feels in the hand. The size is right in the sweet spot. This knife is big enough to be a useful tool in multiple different applications, but not so large that it's unwieldy in any of them.  The sheath is nice and versatile: molle compatible, can be mounted vertically in either direction, or even horizontally on your belt, and includes a leg strap. It's not the best quality nylon/stitching, I'll be honest there, but the retention is wonderful and you can ditch the nylon portion of the sheath for something different if you want because it fully detaches.  I'm more about the actual knife anyway.  Now, there are some who are down on Gerber and I get why, but this is stout blade. I did find that the factory edge left something to be desired: it was sharp, but it wasn't going-to-slice-you-open-by-just-looking-at-it sharp, so I have put my own edge on it and am much happier.  Incidentally, the 420 HC steel ain't the easiest to sharpen but it's not horrible either.  If I had muh druthers, this would have a couple holes near the bolster (like the LMF it's based on) for lashing, but in a pinch I could work something out because of the bolster/handle design shape. And of course it's Made in the USA.

There is a pretty decent review here:

Note: in the vid he says 420 HC steel has a Rockwell Hardness of about 55. I believe it to be closer to 58 for this knife, and while 400 series stainless is pretty corrosion resistant compared with other high carbon steel, it's going to rust if you leave it exposed to the elements without any care at all.  That said, the ceramic coating is very nice and I love the non-reflective aspect of it. This is now a permanent part of my EDC.

*I feel as though a caveat should be added: while this knife is way more than I expected from a $45 dollar knife, it's not a competitor for a high quality, high dollar blade. I just don't feel super comfortable beating up my high dollar knives via EDC (perhaps I will reevaluate this position in the future) and this is WAAAAY more than merely serviceable as a duty use type knife in that respect (this post was prompted more from a "wow this is better than I expected perspective" than a review of a superior knife).  I sing the praises of this particular knife here because sometimes you do get more than you pay for and this is one of those rare cases. Knife connoisseurs are going to find this knife inferior to other offerings they normally peruse and use. I will say this much: this knife will compete well with knives twice to maybe 3x its price tag.

Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
