Here is a sample of Colt's WWII experimental select-fire 1911A1 .45s developed for the US military. Very difficult to find.Note the very heavy slide to add mass. This one is on a period semi-auto 1911A1 semi-auto frame. Photos by David Buehn.

 I cannot think of the man .. Leabran or something... that made John Dillingers full auto .45 or 38 super. it had a hand grip on the front. He put a compensator to control the climb

The cycle rate is pretty impressive on a F/A 1911. Bubba wanted my opinion on his trigger job at the range. Pretty sure the last round went off, before the first empty hit the ground. Not very controllable. Handed it back, and told him it needed some work.
