Sadly All Giant Pandas May Leave U.S. Zoos Soon

China is recalling Pandas as The new cold war begins. Cannot find a present count on line either here in the USA. Unverified number is 4 or 5 so if interested find one to visit after the Pandemic for they be gone very soon.

It looks like there are four of the critters in the United States: Two currently in a zoo in Atlanta, and two in Washington DC. Pandas are solitary animals, so they only bring males and females together for mating. The fact is, the pandas are leased from China at the tune of $1 million per Panda per year. Any cubs resulting from mating are the property of the PRC and not the zoo, which pays to raise them before sending them to China. It seems like a racket, but when the pandas are on road trips they draw huge crowds to the zoos, which more than pays for their upkeep and leasing fees.

On a rather inappropriate side note, I've actually wondered what one would taste like. I've found that black bear and brown bear is delicious if properly prepared.

    The wife likes Panda Express.

I am not a fan.  Send them home, I say.  Just another Chinese import that cost the US Taxpayer money and takes space from indigenous American species.

I have seen most of the Pandas that have been in the US since the 1950s.  I have also been on a team negotiating for Pandas.  Fortunately I never had to go to China.  Those folks would have traded their grandmothers for hard currency.  The pandas belong in China in my view.
