Corona math.

I read that the Italian death rate from corona virus is 67 deaths per million.  At least for this post we will say that figure is correct.  Worst case scenario in this country, double the Italian rate meaning our death rate per million would be 134.  Multiply 330 (As in 330,000,000 million people in our country.) times 134.  Total would be 44,220 deaths from corona virus.   Was it 2017 that 61,000 people in this country died from the flu??  Ok, so 61,000 people died and our various State governments closed no schools and closed no business's.  If that doesn't make you scratch your head a large % of countries around the world have also shutdown.  For a virus that is not supposed to be as deadly as the flu.  These shutdowns will cause great damage to the worlds economies if this doesn't end soon.

So what is really going on??  I hate to sound like I'm wearing a tinfoil hat (Or sounding like Serf!) but my weak mind can only come up with two possibilities.  The first is a drive towards One world Gov. or corona virus is WAY! worse than they are telling us.

I'm open to other thoughts from normal people or crazies alike!!

On one hand you are looking at numbers from a years data,  on the other you are looking at a new virus that is just starting and not much is known about.

The last three days in Italy are looking better, though obviously three days does not establish a trend.
New Cases diagnosed are going down as are numbers dying per day.
In another week will know fairly well if Italy is over the hump.

As of midnight last night, the death rate in Italy for resolved cases was 45%  (55% recovered, 45% died).  This is alarming, but the number of mild vs. severe cases out of the active cases seems to be dropping.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

You are 100% on. The CDC data shows 61,000 US deaths from flu in the 2017-2018 flu season. That was high, but abnormally high. The last eight flu seasons averaged 38,000 US deaths from an average of 27,800,000 flu cases each year. The response to this corona thing is WAY WAY overblown. It isn't the virus that is the problem, it is the hysterical over reaction to the latest media/democrat manufactured crisis. Trump just now is encouraging the country to get back to normal. Meanwhile, idiots like the governor of Connecticut are encouraging him to make things worse by closing the country.

This is just starting. Italy and China are our playbooks. We don't know how this could turn out here. The continuously cited flu statistics mean nothing. The flu season lasts from September till May. Our ability to hospitalize and treat a sudden rush of deathly ill patients is the statistic to cite.
