I got laid off Tuesday for at least two weeks

bpostbpost Member Posts: 32,669 ✭✭✭✭
12 out of 19 were laid off.  Even a 40 year employee that forgot more about tires than I will ever know was laid off.  The management was crying as they roll called those impacted.  The guy in the office was due to his age and his suffering from bronchitis right now.  Me, I also agree with and understand; I am in outside sales, I can't be out and about seeing dozens of customers when at 62 I too could be in serious trouble if I get it.
THANK GOD ABOVE for me having a bit of savings to fall back on in the bank and tons of food in the house.
People that believe in Government helping with their lives are fools.  I have spent three days trying to get online to file the mass layoff paperwork, no luck the site keeps crashing.  After five minutes on the phone talking to the stupid computer voice it garbles the email address after the @ that I used in 2007 when my company went out of business.
If you don't have your PIN from all those years ago TS you can't get to a human.  The email I used years ago is long gone, out of business.  A state keeping a PIN active past a year is S-T-U-P-I-D.  I have been employed non stop since 2008.  Today the system told me the numerical part of my drivers license that I entered was wrong.  No it wasn't and it worked yesterday to progress to more crap about debit card fees, just before it said they had high call volume and hung up on me.
I have no idea how I am supposed to get into the system to file my claim.  I suppose to reduce stress I will just ignore the scum sucking buzzards and live off my savings until I can figure out how to get to a human being.

3 of my 4 sons are also out of work during this crap storm.  One of them has a wife still working in the medical field at a hospital.  Good for their income but I worry she will bring home the virus to the three grandkids and my son!  The hospital makes all employees pay for their own scrubs and they are responsible for the laundering as well.  Washing clothes from that place in the home would be a very bad idea!!

Over the last 64 years I have managed to keep a fair amount of my hair.  This last couple of weeks I can see it all falling into the sink!     I know worry gets you no where but it is pretty hard not too!  Still praying a lot though!

Sorry to hear Bruce. I hope you're able to get it all sorted without having to deplete your savings.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Sorry too Bruce and didn't mean to shanghi your post.  Venting can have a mind of its own.   Hope you can enjoy some time off and getting away from the public is a good thing right now.

Based on my research washing your clothes is a minimal threat to contracting Covid 19.  When I get home from work I enter my garage, immediately spray my shoes top, sides and bottom with lysol, remove, and then take my uniform off and spray it with lysol and let hang dry, and spray my vest and belt as well and in the house I go in just my skivies straight into the shower.  Wash my clothes on hot and tumble dry on hot.    Covid is believed to contracted by droplets, inhaled or entered through the mouth, nose, or eyes and tend not to live long on clothing fibers, and if dry die.

That sucks, glad you have reserves. I would say before you deplete all your savings stay at the filing process. Mind numbing from your story but eventually will be worth the effort and keeps your reserves available.
I told the wife this sucks for every one but THANK GOD it didn't happen when we were younger. Raising the girls we didn't have any room to miss a check, as we've gotten older we have a nice cushion. We are blessed and praying for those who are not.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I'm so sorry this is happening.       I wonder if filing for unemployment in person is an option at this time?    With so many state agencies closing they must be doing something to keep this going.   They have to understand not everyone has access to a computer to deal with the on line filing ordeal.

I may be wrong but I think you have to call for an appointment, and I doubt the phone lines are any better than the internet.......if they are still even doing face to face
