Meme Dump dissenting opinion thread

There are two different posts in the Meme Dump Thread showing a painter and a drywall worker who had been wearing surgical masks and still got their face covered with paint or drywall plaster dust.
First of all, no one works in a Covid-19 virus spray booth. No one is saturated with the virus the way those two were. What happened is their masks filled up and then the air started mostly bypassing the mask and going in around the nose and other small gaps. That's not going to happen with the virus. The surgical masks may only catch a percentage of incoming particles, but that still increases your chances of not getting ill if you walk past an infected person.
Second of all, the main reason for them is to stop the wearer from spraying infectious droplets. If those guys had a mouth full of paint or drywall dust, and they coughed, the mask would catch most of it.

Same here.
It was a meme, not a PSA.

This is essentially collective punishment. Cruel, but effective.
The Rules/posting guidelines have been in place since day one. They have been broken and enforced just as long.
The meme dump thread started out fun. Then there were a few bad post here and there. Then more, and more. Then the number of offenders grew, and grew. I issued more than one warning of what was going to happen. Those warnings were ignored, and the number of offenders/ offenses continued to grow. I then kept my end of the bargain and LOCKED the thread, not POOFED. The thread can be brought up on your page by doing an archive search, for your viewing pleasure.
I/we (MODS, ADMIN) could have locked out each offender, but did not.
I decided to leave them in the pond with the other fish and let peer pressure work in my favor. Then I don't have to expel the energy to push the BAN button. Yes, I too have one.
Threads with a meme here and there is fine with me, as long as it fits within the posting guidelines. A full blown meme thread? NO!!
Thank you.
Moderators do have the power to ban offending members, but I am unaware of any moderator actually doing this. it is not a pleasant task to remove someone from our forum- well, sometimes it is! so that duty is typically reserved for Nunn or myself.
Although now far fewer in number, there remain several members who ignore the rules and simply cannot follow instructions. We had a situation a week ago where a member had been warned not to use a specific phrase. He chose to ignore that instruction, and he is currently waiting out his two week ban.
There is no free speech here. This forum is owned and operated by Gun Broker, and all of us are guests in Gun Broker's house. I don't make the rules of this forum, but as an admin, I am charged with interpreting those rules and implementing any punishment which I feel fits the violation. I can't make it plainer than that.
Getting back to Sugar Bear: Admin, by which I mean a genuine paid administrator at Gun Broker HQ, had enough. He locked the Sugar Bear thread and added a codicil that anyone who unlocked the thread, meaning any moderator or administrator, would suffer dire consequences for doing so.
As is always the case, Sugar Bear has a fan club who occasionally lobby for it to be unlocked and reinstated in the forum. That won't happen, or not until I get the okay from GBHQ.
As an admin, I interpret the rules, but I am not above the rules.
Even so, I can use all of the memes I want to:
I’ve been admin over another Internet forum for a decade and I’ve got to say this one is remarkably well managed. It helps to have members that get along, but there are rules and roles to fill and the mods and admins nearly never come out smelling of roses. These guys have struck a great balance between freewheeling fun and mild correction as needed.
keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Hell, if you live in California, no one will sell you anything, so why bother with the auctions?
Originally didn’t see any thing wrong with the meme dump thing until I went back and reviewed a bunch that I had missed . Yep bunch of folks took it waaay too far . Gunbrokers house , their rules . I have no problem with that
The double standard of what is acceptable on the forums vs what is OK on the auction side has been around for ages.
I’m disappointed but not surprised.
