Knee surgery update

pulsarncpulsarnc Member Posts: 6,569 ✭✭✭✭

Went back to the orthopedic shop today for checkup . Seem to be developing some minor problems , swelling redness etc . Stopped short of saying I had an infection but started a course of antibiotics. We left and before we got home he called and said he was coming to make a house call . He decided it needed to be immobilized till Monday. 30 minutes later the surgeon is at my house wrapping and bandaging my leg . Never thought I would see a house call in this day , especially by a surgeon

Wish you the best. Knee surgery is hell from what I heard, but life is much better afterwards.

grandad45, so far I would say a positive attitude is a big part of the recovery . I was doing good till the physical issues came into play

I was slated to have right replaced yesterday [7/22] > Hospital canceled due to resurgence of "the virus". ...  >:):s

That is not a good sign, the doc coming to your house.   Infection is one of the major potential problems with TKR.
Cross your fingers, do exactly what doc says, and let's hope the antibiotics work and clear it up.
What antibiotic did they give you?  For how many days?

I heard the quack that screwed up my knee closed his practice...maybe he just moved to your area.

No, scrarch that. Can't be the same guy. My quack didn't care enough to do a house call. He didn't even show up for his post-op appointments - he let his nurse do them.

    Be careful if its infection.

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

Bactrim DS is the antibiotic . Ten day supply , twice a day . I have since learned it is not unusual for him to do follow up house calls . Have heard from several peeps locally with the same experience

Prayers for you and yours. I have had really bad knee issues. My biggest problem was me waiting to long to have surgery. I kept getting knee injection after knee injection. Finally i told my dr to schedule orthoscopic surgery for my knees.

When i went to see about the surgery he pulled up my images and told me that i was in the wrong place. Im confused and he told me that i need to see the dr across the hall. He told me that he would not bill me for the 3 minuet talk. I asked him what was going on and he told me their is nothing in my knee to orthoscope.

He told me i needed total knee replacement. One thing GB members told me that was 100% dead on was to do physical therapy with 100% effort and they were right. My knees are 1000% better. However my right knee still hurts when the weather changes to rain.

I can remember before surgery when my knee would pop out of the joint and i would whimper like a beat dog and when it popped back in it was way better than sex. I have had people ask me what that noise was when it popped back in place and they could feel it through the floor in the house as a vibration.

I never had an infection so i dont know the right thing to tell you but as far as my experiance i have not gone wrong by doing what my doctors say.

Best of luck to you and prayers.

Like others have said follow doctors orders. It does happen in knee surgery and its complexity, that infection can occur.  May the Good Lord bless your recovery... This too shall pass.
