Made a gun trade, something I almost never do!! So how did I make out??

dreherdreher Member Posts: 8,893 ✭✭✭✭
I swapped even, no boot, an AR I had right at $475 +- $25 in it, for a S+W model 25 in the 45 ACP.  This 25 has been fired, but lightly.  It obviously has a very low round count.  No scratches, no blemishes of any kind, no box but if it had a box, you would have to remove it from the box to determine that it had been fired.  It is that clean on the outside.  It has a 5 1/2 inch barrel.  No moon clips came with it.  All that really counts is I'm happy with the deal but I think I made out like a bandit!!

Has the barrel been cut or was it special ordered with 5 1/2”? I thought the N frames all came with 3 1/2”(27’s) 4”, 6 or 6 1/2” and 8 3/8” and 10” for the Model 29.

    Pinned barrel?

    Standard target stocks?

    SSN prefix?

    Maybe a picture?

    You did very good.

I just remeasured it.  From the front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel was 5 1/2 inches.  Looking at the front sight and the end of the barrel I have trouble believing the barrel has been shortened.  If it has been shortened it was a dead top gunsmith who did the work as I can see nothing to say it has been worked on.

They did offer 5” but I’ve never seen one in the wild. I’ve never seen a 5 1/2” for sale. Great gun though.

First - I think ya done real good.

Second - Your post got me wondering about my 25-2 that is in the safe. The handy dandy tape measure says it's 5 7/8'' so I guess the 6" designation is just a ballpark figure but your 1/2'' variance seems like a lot. Any idea when it was made? Could it be something like a Lou Horton special run?

If you want to use it without the clips check into 45 auto rim. The auction side has both ammo and brass. Some days I was lazy and shot all auto rim instead of filling  and then removing fired cases from the clips. With the ACP clips it is as fast as the best speedloader. Bob

According to the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson". The only non special order Model 25, with a 5 1/2" barrel. Is one of the "Heritage Series", dating to 2001. It's a real odd ball. Case hardened finish, Fixed sights and a Lanyard ring.

I was on the Midway USA web site.  I went to their holster finder to see what they had for a 25 S+W holster.  In the 25 -1 or -2 they listed multiple barrel lengths, one of which was a 5.5 inch barrel length.  And that exhausts all of my knowledge on the subject!!        :D

Too many people get caught up in the "I got the best of that guy".

You got what you wanted and got rid of something you did not mind seeing go.

The other guy got what he wanted and got rid of something he did not mind seeing go.

I think you both got great deals.

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

You did very well. Just remember that the S&W's are loaded down as compared to Ruger's and T/C's.... I just acquired one of my grail guns a little while back, a S&W 625 in 45 Colt

28-2, or 25-2? Model 28's are the "N" frame highway patrolman in 357....Or a poor man's version of the model 27.....

Well I don't know how you did. In today's market the AR will probably sell for $1500.00. What's the Smith worth.? As long as you are happy with the deal, that is all that matters. I love Smith & Wessons, but no way would I care to own a revolver that fires 45 ACP.

I reckon you made at least $500. Pretty good return on $600 investment. After the "panic" you'll still be ahead.

Almost forgot. You did claim the rights of "no trade backs", right?

    Nice trade.
I did one similar last summer. Traded a milled Norinco Mak90 that I bought at a Garage Sale for $300 for a Ruger Redhawk 45 Colt / 45 ACP.
