It's been a rough week

Any of you guys ever had shoulder replacement surgery? My wife had full shoulder replacement on her left shoulder this past Tuesday and it's been a really tough week. She has arthritis in both shoulders and the other one will have to be replaced if she ever gets over this one.

I was amazed at how small of an incision was made for this surgery. I don't see how they can do all of that from one small incision?

They gave her directions to start exercising it the day after surgery. It was hurting so bad she couldn't but on the second day she tried it and she thought her shoulder and arm were falling off. It's been 4 days now and the pain is almost unbearable for her. Starting rehab on a shoulder replacement surgery that early doesn't seem right to me? Anybody else here ever go through this?

Had surgery on both years ago, and replacement is most likely in the near future for one of them. Not looking forward to it but tired of the pain. Hope all goes well for her.

I don't know but a Buddy had a Knee done and they want you moving it ASAP, if not I've been told it gets harder each day, if that is the same with shoulder she really will need to start using it somehow. Obviously you all have already been in contact with docs regarding that much pain.  Prayers it gets easier for her.
Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

I never had shoulder surgery, but I had simultaneous surgeries on my left elbow and my left wrist. Much like your better-half, the incisions were small and I was immediately put into physical therapy. The pain was awful- I wanted to stop going, but my girlfriend drove me three times a week to the therapy sessions and saw to it that I did all of my assigned at home exercises. The rubber strap which I had to pull by flexing my elbow was the worst!

All I can offer is that the PT worked. I recovered fully, although in cold weather the elbow still aches. Luckily cold weather isn't much of an issue in Central Florida.

Have you ever tried to get in touch with a doctor over the weekend? It's hard enough though the week and impossible on the weekend unless you go to the emergency room. And then you only get to see a doctor in training until Monday morning around 10:00 AM.

I had hip replacement that damaged my sciatic nerve.......last December. I am still recovering. My mom has had shoulder surgery and it is a rough recovery............she is looking at another one due to arthritis.

    Getting old sucks.

I had should surgery earlier this year. You have to get it moving ASAP. If she thinks she is in pain now, let that freeze up and then try to get it moving. I went to an ART (Active Release Technique) for rehab. It is very painful, but very effective.

A buddy of mine has had both knees and a shoulder done.  He said the shoulder was the worst by far.

Currently rehabbing from total knee replacement . PT is painful but necessary. Good therapist will push you to your limits and beyond . Good luck to your wife

Normally for general office stuff I agree however I manage three surgery centers maintenance programs and know quite a few of the surgeons and nurses Etc. In my experience they ALWAYS give a number to call in case of situations occurring over a weekend when surgery occurs on a Friday. Even if it isn't your doc one of the partners is usually on call. I can remember one case where the guy who had surgery was insisting he had to go back to work Saturday to water and feed the dogs at his kennel and Dr. Benner said NO but he and his daughter went to do the job. I guess it takes the right doc

My shoulder froze up a couple years ago and I went to therapy three days a week for four months before they would ok surgery to break it free then more therapy for three months afterwards to make sure it didn’t freeze up again. No fun
