Rocky Raab, I have a question for you

bpostbpost Member Posts: 32,669 ✭✭✭✭
I know you served in VN as a spotter.  THANK YOU, God bless.   I purchased both of your books and LOVED them.
If you had a choice, after seeing results from real war experience would you rather have 8-.50 caliber guns, two 20MM guns or just rockets to strike at soft targets (forget tanks), troops, trucks or emplacements and why?
Is the effectiveness of a 1,000 pound bomb really twice that  of a 500 pounder?  Does the weight of shot overcome volume of shot at an area?  I mean is a P-47 with 8 .50 caliber guns raking a forest with all guns blazing less effective than a 500 pound bomb or two 20MM strafing run.
What say you?

For strafing, bigger is better for results, BUT with heavier and larger rounds, you can carry a lot less. It's very much a tradeoff. A one-second burst versus a three-second per pass is huge.
With bombs, it's a multiple. A 1,000 is much more powerful than twice a 500. I didn't get to control more than a couple strikes with 750s, but they seemed to produce at least double the effect of a 500.
Ditto for rockets. There was a notable increase in effect between a 10-lb and 17-lb HE warhead on 2.75" rockets.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Available on Amazon at a total price of around $ 36.00 for both.

Or direct from the printer for about $20 Additional 10% off print books through Aug 21.
Also ebook versions for even less. Same link.
Hang on. I just looked, and they are still showing the original prices, which I discounted some time ago. I'll fix that.

Well, I'm having trouble on the publisher's website. So...
I'll sell both books, SIGNED, via Priority Mail for $30 total. email me via my profile info. Provide name you want it signed to, plus address. I'll reply with my address for payment.
Since that's below my cost for UNsigned books, I'll make this a limited time offer, good until Sept 1.

Looking at Mike on the pile right now. Learned of the books right here.
Going to hunt up Baggy and read them both again.
    Baggy first, of course.
Really enjoyed them. Thanks Rocky !

When they arrive, my standard warning: Do NOT start reading Baggy late at night! The folks who have them may agree.

Well, I did manage to lower the prices on the publisher's page, but not as low as I'd like. They've changed their pricing structure (to their own benefit, of course) and removed the "Preview" option to read teaser samples. Disappointing.

Wikipedia said the US had some real trouble getting working 20mm cannon produced during the war.  The Air Corps and the Navy both wanted to switch but were not able to.

Baggy is Part One, Dave. But don't start it late at night.
Funny thing...According to the Postal Orifice, the four sets of books I mailed together arrived at the farthest destinations first, in 48 hours. The one to the closest destination - a neighboring state - won't arrive until tomorrow. Sigh...

Trust me guys, you will like them.  Reading what Rocky did shows you that Rocky is a few rocks short of a full load and clanks as he walks on this God's green earth.

    I deny the clanks part.
