I bought a new weapon

Sam06Sam06 Member Posts: 21,244 ✭✭✭✭
Went on a Golfing trip this weekend we played 3 courses in the NC mountains.

I borrowed a buddy's a Callaway Rouge 5 hybrid/rescue club.  Man it hits good and helped me out of some tough places.  I went to Golf Galaxy and got a used one for a good price.  I hit it in the yard a few times and I like it, very forgiving.

I've got both a hybrid 3 and a 5, can't remember the brand, though.  They can definitely help get a fella out of a jam, and when I golf, I get in a lot of 'em!

Yes, better than a 5 wood for sure as you can hit out of the 1rst, 2nd and 3rd cutting with those. .I have a Titleist and it is the berries when you do it right.

Way better than a 5 wood.  I can hit a 5 iron better than a 5 wood so its stays home.  I walk when golfing(most of the time) and if I don't hit it good it stays behind.  This will replace my 5 iron.

So now I will have; Driver, 3 wood, 5 hybrid, 6-PW, GW (52-6)and a 58 degree wedge that I can use in the sand or for chip shots, 11 clubs counting my putter(which I should leave home ;))  I could probably leave my 9 iron home too but I do use it on occasion.

I've bought four new sets of golf clubs, several assorted specialty clubs and I've never played a round of golf in my life.   But all of my sons have.   I figure I have enough time consuming expensive hobbies without adding another one.  I'm a bit competitive, if I started playing I'm going to want to beat someone and that could interfere with other pursuits.

Stand a little closer to the putter with a firm grip, feet about 18 inches apart. No blade putter, and you will improve. ymmv.

Do not like the way hybrids feel or look.  Have hit a few on the range and they seem to work OK, but no improvement over regular irons for me, so not worth the effort.

Got fitted for a set of Ping I-500s last fall and am still learning how best to employ them.  Adding a hybrid into the mix would not help things.

I am just the opposite Don, got to where it didn't matter if it was a 3 iron or 9 iron I couldn't get over 130 out of any blade style irons. Got a set of the Cleveland Hibore hybrids full set 3 to pitching wedge and got my distance back, I am on my second set now got the newer HB3 hybrids, the wedges take some getting used to, but I just can't hit a blade style iron anymore, had a shoulder lock up aftery bypass, and got hip replaced this spring, and my swing is about half what it used to be, but the hybrids keep me playing though I do use the senior tees now........

I also got a new weapon.  Little larger caliber.  I bought the new Taylormade SIM driver and Three wood.  So far working good.

Got into a jar of the neighbor's fresh raspberry jam, and it took 2 loaves of bread to get me out.... I do like the hybrid woods in the 5 and 7's though....

Well I just got a new used Cleveland 48 degree wedge. $65 and a 9 out of a possible 10. Bought a 50 degree wedge last year to go with my Taylormade RSI 1's. Found out for some reason that I couldn't hit it the required 100 yards I needed it for. Their pitching wedge is 45 degrees and their next closets was a 50. I got kinda pissed at the 50 and bent the shaft. It took me awhile to find the 48 and it doesn't match my set but I don't care. I'll find out Monday if I did the right thing.  I have a Golf Galaxy about 10 miles away but I don't get out that way to often. I figure since I keep my clubs in the Exploder 9 months out of the year eventually I'll get there and they can re-shaft the 50.

I love a good wedge.  I have a Adams Golf 52 degree Gap Wedge which is my favorite club.  I also have a Taylor Made 58 degree that is awesome.  My 2009 Taylor Made burner Irons are really great they replaced a set of PING Zings I got in the 90's and they are twice as forgiving.  I hit the PW about 110 yds and I can 85-90 yds out of the Gap wedge.  I don't tote a Sand wedge anymore or a 5 iron, the hybrid replaced the 5 iron and I can get out of the sand with one of my wedges.

I have a Cleveland Hibore 8 iron I found on a course way out in the woods.  I carry it sometimes because it is a good hitting club especially on par 3's.

One thing I have come to the realization of is a good ball makes a huge difference.

I've only got one golf bat. I used to use it when I went to the driving range.

Bought a 9 wood a few years back.  Really love it.  Use it for 140-160 yards out.

I've got a 65 degree sand wedge but I don't carry it as much. The neat thing is that I can swing it as hard as I possibly can and it doesn't go further then 25 yards. It basically goes straight up and straight down. :)
