My bil is an IT guy at a very large credit card company who just happens to be staying with us this week.

He mentioned this am that he was glad he wasn’t on call this weekend because about 5 major internet carriers are down.

Because of the pandemic, lot of the places folks normally socialize in, are still closed. They have staying home, watching porn 24/7, causing the problems you have noted.

"CenturyLink, an internet service provider that is supposed to keep websites up and running, was down itself for much of Sunday morning.

That meant Cloudflare, Hulu, the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Feedly, Discord, and dozens of other services reported connectivity problems Sunday morning. When Cloudflare went down, it took dozens of websites and online services along with it. The company said the problem was with a third-party “transit provider,” and its service was becoming increasingly stable over the course of the day.

“Today we saw a widespread internet outage online that impacted multiple providers,” said John Graham-*, Cloudflare CTO. “Cloudflare’s automated systems detected the problem and routed around them, but the extent of the problem required manual intervention as well.”

Graham-* claimed that CenturyLink was responsible for the outage, which took Cloudflare and its many customers down with them.

CenturyLink, which acquired Level 3 in 2017, confirmed there was an IP outage impacting Content Delivery Networks (CDN), and that all services had been restored as of 11:12 am ET. The telecommunications company said it was unable to comment on certain customers because of customer proprietary network information."

Sun spots. Yep it's sun spots, they're interfering with our magnetic field. I can't count the times it's happened here at my house.

It seems the internet has big issues especially on the coasts.  Here in Ohio mine started with an outage of about 24 hours last Wed or Thurs.  I have Frontier Communications as the sole available provider.  I can't view any video, the up/down load speeds are .24-.29MBPS.  I can't access Youtube, my second bank, Fidelity Investments and several others.  Even GB forums is loading like it is dial up.  Not sure what is going on but with school starting for millions of kids over the internet there is a good chance the whole shebang will go to dial up speeds or crash and burn.

Wife had to pay cash at Starbucks; they couldn't process her retina scan, or whatever that device is.

Century Link in our area is horrible, always has been. That's why we got rid of them and went with Hughes Net, which is very marginally better.

    ”....

    NEW YORK DRAFT RIOTS BEGIN

For the first 24 hours after the lottery, the city remained suspiciously quiet, but rioting began early on the morning of Monday, July 13, 1861.

Thousands of white workers – mainly Irish and Irish-Americans – started by attacking military and government buildings, and became violent only toward people who tried to stop them, including the insufficient numbers of policemen and soldiers the city’s leaders initially mustered to oppose them.

By that afternoon, however, they had moved on to target black citizens, homes and and businesses.

In one notorious example, a mob of several thousand people, some armed with clubs and bats, stormed the Colored Orphan Asylum on Fifth Avenue near 42nd Street, a four-story building housing more than 200 children.

They took bedding, food, clothing and other goods and set fire to the orphanage, but stopped short of assaulting the children, who were forced to go to one of the city’s almshouses.“
