Kroil???......update...

Trying to help a buddy out, and remove a stuck choke tube. I put the barrel into my magnetic soft jaws, and cranked the vice down pretty good, inserted an easy-out, but the barrel still spun. Tried the heat gun on the barrel, and the same thing happened. It's now soaking in a jar of Kroil. How long should I soak it to get the maximum benefit from the magic juice, is 24 hours too long?? I don't have any help at the moment to hold the gun...

I would try whacking the muzzle pretty good with a plastic hammer and see if that will jar it loose.

Already tried that. This my second attempt with a screw type easy out, rather than the straight cut type. It's one stuck SOB. I don't think that I will crush the barrel, but I don't want it to spin and loosen the rib....

If it is rusted in place a couple of days soaking can't hurt. If that doesn't work put it in the freezer and after it is as cold as it can get apply heat to the outside of the barrel while trying to turn the tube. I've also used Riccis method of tapping the wrench while turning. Good luck. Bob

That was my thought Bob. I figured 24 hours in the Kroil, and then give it a shot. By that time it would have absorbed as much Kroil as it would, and if that didn't work, into the freezer for 6 hours or so, then heat it up. It's an invector plus tube, so it's about 2" long. I've been keeping the end of the barrel flush with the vice jaws so I don't spread the barrel. Maybe I should put the barrel out past the jaws so it doesn't put extra pressure on the threads...

I've been using this product (Kroil) for years.  Friend gave me an old rusted together Spanish small auto that I left soak for 2 days,  changed the oil to fresh and let it sit for another 2 days and the gun came apart very easily.  Good luck

 Use a heat gun to heat it to the point its uncomfortable to hold bare handed and then slowly dunk into the Kroil. The cooling will help draw the oil up between the tube and barrel.

What worked for me was the freezer overnight and dunk the choke end in boiling water.

It has been mentioned here in the distant past that a fifty/fifty mixture of Acetone and Transmission fluid makes a good penetrating oil.  Worth a try I guess if the Kroil fails.

if i need about a pint of fluid to soak something in i use the ATF and acetone also.  if you are using heat be careful though it has a low flash point

I did the heat/kroil thing about 4 or 5 times throughout the day on Saturday. Got busy yesterday, will try later today..

i let it soak and walk away from it for several days maybe a week sometimes, most always works

A heat gun and wax works also. 
Heat it up, apply the wax and let it soak into the threads.

Finally got the sum *... Had to have a buddy put it in his barrel vice, but it finally came out. Only damage was breaking the rubber cover off the front bead.... Thanks for all of the help guys!!

Kroil is way over rated, I've never had it penetrate into the threads. On the plus side, I've used it on froze up computer fans, that are still spinning 5yrs later. This guy does some good real world tests, this one compares the top penetrating solutions, and ATF/Acetone.

I will take Kroil in aerosol and can form over any of store bought ones. Never made my own but may try.

With respect to the above test. When I was turning wrenches at auto dealerships I used PB Blaster on exhaust bolts and such and it worked. The only thing I would ever use WD40 for would be for its intended purpose of displacing moisture or as a cleaner. I don't see any value other than that. I use Kroll here in my office cause I like the smell and most stuff isn't stuck all that bad. I really don't know about Liquid Wrench but I know a lot of folks use it.

Project Farm is one of my favorites. aVe had similar results, there is nothing special about Kroil except the price.

If you want a real penetrating oil, the oil in power transformers is the best, but has to be kept in a glass container, it will penetrate right thru a metal can. The trick is getting it, and I wouldn't recommend climbing a power pole to get it.
