Not a Triumph.....but Here’s My New Ride!

FrogdogFrogdog Member Posts: 3,030 ✭✭✭✭

Always wanted a dual-sport, and finally brought one home. Kawasaki really hit a home-run with this little bike. Smooth, light, comfortable, and great power delivery. So far, I love it! Highly recommend the KLX230 if you are in the market for this type of bike.

Very nice!  I'm seriously considering selling the road burner and picking up a Honda XR650R.
Smiles per mile is where it's at.

The Honda 650 is a classic Baja-worthy beast for sure. Way too tall for me, though!

The KLR650 also has a Cult following. (I contemplated buying one.) Did more road miles (commuting) just then. Wanted a bike to eventually do the Trans-Alaska Highway with.

    Great bikes.

Well?  Did you ever do the Alcan on a bike?  Do tell!  I've driven that thing 11 times and don't miss it.

Oh I'm sorry, I never did it on a bike, usually in pickup trucks.
It's never too late to make that ride.  They've pretty much paved the whole thing now and it's smooth sailing.  Maybe start in Alberta somewhere ... Banff is spectacular.  Head toward Whitehorse and don't be in a hurry.  Kluane Lake is gorgeous and has a nice campground, Fort Nelson, Wolf Creek outside Whitehorse ... tons of great camping and plenty of hotels.  The old long stretch outside Ft. Nelson where you had to worry about gas is long gone.  Go for it!

Yeah back then there were 50 mile stretches made of rocks the size of cantaloupes kinda pressed down.  Or construction areas that turned to mud pits and they had to pull you through with heavy equipment.  One year there'd been a population explosion of gophers and thousands of them lined the road for miles and miles and miles.  They'd dart across and after awhile you quit trying to miss them.  One year I did it in 47 hours and 59 minutes in a '68 Mustang, Spokane to Anchorage.
