A sweet old truck

These guys are funny and that's a pretty sweet Ford. I miss my 1984 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 350 small block and the granny four speed. I drove it from Reno to Atlantic City in 1984 to start a new job. I did stop at Buxton, N.C. for a few days fishing. That was a great truck. A nice simple great truck.

That 6.9 Cornbinder engine was great. Non turbo but would out pull anything around. I had an 86 F250 deisel With the 4 speed, no overdrive, 4.11 gears. At 55 mph, it was screaming.

My youngest son traded for a early 90s Ford 150,short bed,300-6 cylinder,4 speed. It was black and I buffed it and it looked like a black mirror. It made a nice looking truck, but there was always something wrong with it.It had dual tanks and one of them did not work so we pulled the bed and replaced fuel pumps in both tanks. The gas in the tank that did not work had turned to varnish and black goo.Muratic acid and pressure washing took care of that. After putting everything back together and putting gas in the recently cleaned tank I found a rust hole about the size of a 22 round in the bottom of the tank, epoxy tank sealer fixed that. Then it would cut off and not start back until a tow truck got it home where it started fine.OBD code reader said it had 2 bad sensors.Replaced the sensors, same problem.A Honda mechanic told me it was a bad distributor and that and a new starter fixed it enough to sell. Luckily for him he had kept his Toyota truck through the whole ordeal.

A bunch of farmers were shootin the breeze talking about how big their spreads were.  First one says "My place is so big I gotta make a special trip to go get the mail".  Second farmer says "Yeah?  My place is so big they ran out of barbed wire down at the store".  Third guy says "Oh yeah?  My place is so big I get in my truck and drive all day from sunup to sundown to get across it".  Fourth guy thinks for a minute and says "Ya know, I had a Ford like that too".

No, actually that''s a "Bonnie Blue" confederate  flag tag that I got from one of pwillie's generous giveaways.
But I'll take the Brigadier slot. ;)

Here's my 1989 F-250  460, 4::10 , 10mpg.  It now has 119,000 miles with no rust, but no paint left on the hood. It'll pull a train, but can't pass a gas station.

I had a ‘79 F 150 someone had shoehorned a 460 ci Lincoln motor into. Couldn’t get the gas gage to work. With a 460 engine you really, really need the gas gage to work.

Someone turned a Ranger into a dually?

Yeah, then I shoe horned a 5.0 HO into it. Painted it in Imron.  Lost alot of money on that one.

I have always liked the looks of the ford trucks  first  one I had was a 77 ( two years old at the time )  f250 hiboy had a 360 granny 4 speed in it had to replace the engine so  bought a  390 and replaced it   I think it had to have a 4 series gear ratio in the differentials   great truck it dearly loved the gas  stations  with a good stiff  tail wind would get about 10 mpg  going down hill a coworker of my wifes talked me out of it , ( did not mind too much )
as for fords    years later I bought 1964   f 100  long bed  no rust  body straight as a arrow  I converted into a 4x4 lifted it  and painted it black  it  drew a lot of attention every where , like a like a dummy I sold it , at the time I loved to trade cars and trucks  and sometimes loose my butt  never counted all the time and work I put into them as the case with the ford I sold it way too cheap  :/
I have build and redone many old trucks and blazers over the years,   but all  the trucks since and current own have  been chevy or GMC ( same thing really )

when I worked construction  many many moons ago a few times due to weather  snow and ice I did not go in and go a lot of flack for having a 4x4 and not showing up ( at that time about a 50 mile one way trip for me )
I would say..  I start to work in 2wd when its gets too bad and start slipping and sliding I put in 4x4 mode and get my butt back home LOL

Why would a two year old need a truck? Don
