I miss all the smells and sounds and activities I grew up with in the Midwest. Dry leaves on the ground, beautiful Fall colors, smoke from fireplaces, duck hunting, pheasant hunting, grouse hunting, all of it!

    Best.

When I was a kid squirrel hunting during the fall I used to get into the woods before daylight and find a good spot to sit down and wait for sunup. Then at about the crack of dawn I would hear the shaking of limbs and the dew falling off of them like rain as the squirrels started moving about. That was pretty exciting times.

I love hearing the Quaking Aspen when a breeze moves through.

It is amazing how scents and sounds can trigger such vivid memories, as well as create new ones. I have the fondest memories of when I got into muzzleloader hunting. Nothing like the feeling of pulling up on a deer, aiming, setting the set trigger, then gently squeezing it. Then wait for the fffzzzttt, boom, and then see and small that sulfurous blackpowder smoke hanging thick in the air. Then, waiting for it to clear to see if you actually hit it. Well, actually most of the times I could hear them hit the ground before it cleared as I never had one run more than 40 yards and most of the time dropped where they stood. I took over 50 deer with that used (and previously abused) CVA Mountain Rifle. Now, it has a proud place on my mantel.

I have been a life long hunter but I don't think I could shoot anything as beautiful as a Wood Duck.

He was loved at Tennessee and still is. He could be elected governor of Tennessee and never have to campaign. But he's to good of a guy to ever get into politics.

A good shot, plus a good taxidermist and you can enjoy that beauty every day. A wood duck is the only mount I had on my wall for 25+ years. I only recently added another mount (a nice buck).
