PayPal on GB

chiefrchiefr Member Posts: 14,115 ✭✭✭✭
Has their policy changed. Used to be a ban on guns, ammo, and other related items like bullets, primers, and powder. Sellers are using Paypal on GB and seen my share. IE: 879726986.
Does GB have a policy on the use of paypal? I could not find anything Paypal specific

It's quick and that's what a lot of people want. Granted paypal has not changed anything on their anti gun stance but it is an effective means of payment IF no issues comes up. Yea, I know PayPal anti gun, so is the companies that where you buy your groceries, buy gas, ect. ect.

I have sold a few things here and got paypal and item out same day. Quick, efficient -

As is nearly always the case, Gun Broker has addressed PayPal. Why I'm the only one who can find this stuff remains unclear, but I guess that's why I'm running the forum:
    https://support.gunbroker.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002837773-Use-of-PayPal-

This is what PayPal ahs to say specifically on the subject of guns and ammo (they don't like either):

What is PayPal’s policy on transactions that involve firearms?

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition. For example,

Paypal's policy is mostly clear, but you have to guess what "certain firearm parts" means.
I have not seen any GB rule that would prohibit using Paypal for non-firearm & non-ammo items.  But, I would not bid on guns or ammo advertising that they accept Paypal, as that would seem to be asking for trouble.  Paypal punishment for violation of their rules is draconian.

I was going to bid on a shotgun today and was looking the auction over for possible red flags etc.    The only payment listed was paypal.  I passed for a couple of reasons, one is paypal doesn't like that and the other is I do not have a paypal account.  I could have written the seller to discuss it but didn't feel like investing the time.

Gun Broker remains ambiguous about PP, but if you get caught in violation of their polices- buying or selling, you have no where to go and are on your own.

I have a policy regarding Paypal.  I won't use Paypal, coming or going.

Bought a shotgun minus receiver on GB about three weeks ago. Seller would not take check or USPS money order but offered PayPal and CC as options. Directions said click on this bar to use PayPal for payment. Nothing and after several tries gave up. Called seller next morning and he said, "Oh, you have to contact PayPal and request funds be sent to me" Not what it said in description. Knowing PayPal's reputation with firearms, I said no thank you and put gun on my CC. Will not attempt to use PayPal on GB again-----------------Ray

OK, I despise PayPal and do not have a PayPal account. However, in my searches, am finding more sellers offering to accept PayPal payments on GB and some PayPal only and will not accept a USPS MO. Even ammo components now are listed as PayPal payable and using the same analogy as gun parts, that should be unacceptable.

    Can provide examples if needed.

Personally, I think all sellers should be required to take either CC or USPS M.O.

Why limit the money intake of Gunbroker? That will never happen and I don't foresee GB doing anything of that nature.

PP has set the standards for what can be bought and sold via their service. PP is no friend of the Second Amendment.

I used to sell on eBay and accepted Paypal. Every so often eBay and Paypal changed/updated their agreement. Each time it changed I read the new agreement before I OK"D it. The last time I read their agreement I could not believe it. I asked myself two questions. 1. Are Paypal and/or eBay honest? 2. Do I want to do business with them? The answer to the second question was NO. My decision had nothing to do with their view of the shooting sports. It took a long time and work to get rid of them. Another GB Topic discussed other payment options. One of those options was Zelle. My bank offered that service and I'm trying it out. There is no worry about restricted firearms sales. There may be no charges for the service depending on the bank. My bank doesn't charge. If other sellers had a account at a bank that didn't charge then that would sometimes eliminate the "3% credit card fee" or (what I consider grasping) Paypal fees. If this works then more money for buyers, sellers and GB. Less money for gun control businesses like Paypal and eBay.

Unless you're a newb to the world of the interweb you're stupider than a leaky upstairs toilet to use PayPal to buy a gun.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

I understand that. Neither is Kroger, Wal Mart, ANY bank, just about any retailer. Paypal is losing millions by following the liberal movement but that's their doing. Just saying it is an option that is USED here more than you think. IMO.

Your right and have noticed a big increase in sellers allowing payment by PP for items they deemed did not meet their standards. Makes me think PP has changed its policy or quit altogether policing transactions. My purpose for my OP.

Yes, I sent the buyer of my item to NOT mention Gunbroker and what is in BIG LETTERS, GUNBROKER #XXXXXXXXXX They missed it or as you say, times are getting tougher for them and realize they are missing millions of dollars.

    If a seller allows it:

    1) I will not do friends and family

    2) I identify payment as: GBAuction12345678

I don’t like it but this has worked. Also- I would not buy a high dollar item with the only form of payment as PP.

OK, I confess, I use Ebay & Paypal.  I only sell things that would not be sellable on GB.  You cannot sell on Ebay unless you agree to accept Paypal; you not only have to pay the Ebay commission, you have to pay the Paypal commission.  You cannot put wording in your description discouraging buyers from using Paypal; if you do & they catch it, they will break your ovaries.  When criticized, Ebay/Paypal always says, "they are separate companies".  Technically, that may be true, but, in practice, they are owned & controlled by the same people.
