Looking for info on value and what type of a case this gun may have came in. The one I am looking at breaks down and has an old canvas case...

Look at the completed sales on the auction side, and also post up this question with lots of clear pictures over in Ask the Experts Forum.  Make sure the pictures show all of the markings, screws, buttplate, sights and muzzle...and describe the bore condition as best as you can.

Canvas cases could be ordered with a lot of different rifles and shotguns, some were Winchester made and others were not.  It is a nice addition for collectors, though.

    Good luck!

250 for parts to 1k for a excellent, nice, original grade. It could have came in anything in the day.

I had looked at completed sales...I would say the gun is average...was more curious if the case that the gun goes in when it is broke down is something special

Average is not a good description when that is all you offer up for appraisal, especially when dealing with older guns like the 1906.  It's good that you checked the completed auctions.  Hopefully, you now have a fairly good idea as to the value of it!   The case could be something special in the right condition, to the right collector/party and, if it is a Winchester canvas case, that might add a bit more money as well.  Ordinarily, such cases are well used, dirty with stains, and the leather trim has dry rot, perhaps, with a buckle missing and such, so, dependent upon a lot of factors you might expect to get $25 or $30, up to  $100 or $150.

I have not been able to find any comparisons to the case...or if they came with the gun... have a general idea what the gun is worth...just unsure about the case

Okay, describe the case to the best of your ability to cover its condition.  I, personally, have three of them, and if I sold two of them, I'd ask between 30 and 60 dollars.  The third one is with a model 1890 from the 1907 era that has provenance back to about that date and time, with the initials of its owner on it, and a shipping tag addressed to him at a Dudes Ranch sent to the post office in Ennis, Montana, that would have very special significance to any would be purchaser.

30 to 60 bucks, if in "typical" used condition.

I have one that was given to me by my dad when I was 12.........my first gun. It shoots extremely well and the action is like butter and very solid. Mine is in about %75 condition with patina. I would estimate the value at $600-$700 in that condition. Mine didn't come with a case as it was a gift to my dad in the 50's.......don't know about a canvas case.
