Russian Gunpowder

buddybbuddyb Member Posts: 5,398 ✭✭✭✭
I posted this in the reloading section but I thought it might do better here. I bought a 2 pound container if Russian Irbis brand powder. It is marked for 7.62x39 and has the recipe on the container.I cant seem to find any reload data on it to see what else it can be used for.Anybody know where to find info on it?

We probably already have reloaded with Russian powder.Cant say for sure, but its starting to look like other powder companies have been re-packaging it and selling it under brand names that we know.

    30-30?
    300 BLK"
    223?

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

A ROUGH rule of thumb would be to look at published reload tables for the 7.62x39 and find a powder charge as close as possible to what's printed on the Russian powder can. That will give you a known powder with approximately the same burn rate/characteristics. Then use the numbers for that known powder in other cartridges - again, as a ROUGH guide.

Fictional example: On the Roosky can, it says 25.5 gr for the standard 7.62x39 load. You look in your Acme loading manual and discover a recipe of 25.0 gr of Whiz 1234 powder for the same round, bullet, and velocity. You now know that the Roosky powder and Whiz 1234 are about the same.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Unaware of any powder, but I have reloaded ammo using Wolf primers someone gave me to try and every one went bang.
Cant say that about RP and WW.
Been using reclaimed powder in white jugs for many years. No load data other than "Similar to X powder" With a little patience in working up loads, I have had great results. No bad for around four dollars a pound.
