Was on a solar powerplant construction site out West of Barstow- lunchtime, walking over to trailer, someone fired a shotgun twice right behind me.  I got up off the ground in time to see the two fighters that had just "boomed us" at low level, Mach plus.  DAYUM they are loud!  One of the hands said "You like our daily air show?"

I was stationed at Ft. Irwin............lived in Barstow. Man, I had a good time there.

Slow but not that slow. 3rd generation family business. Still flying the original Beavers. I've flown quite a few trips in both their Dehavilland Beavers. Air Ivanhoe based near Foleyet Ontario. Bob

Love the Beaver!

My hunting partner used to fly into and out of some pretty small lakes in Beavers.

We watched people flying other types of planes ferry their loads out to larger lakes.

Many times we took off, him, me & our pilot, all our gear and 2 moose just clearing the alders. Both floats packed with chunks of meat.

We were young, dumb and bullet-proof.

It is a amazing how much one radial engine can lift. I have seen them take off packed to the gills with supplies to build a new outpost cabin and with a 16ft lund boat strapped on the side resting on the float. If you can cram it in or strap it on the darn plane can carry it.  The gentleman that started the fly in service worked for Dehavilland developing the Beaver. It actually did quite a bit of military service around the world. One of the planes still has the desert cowling that it originally came with. Both planes are 60 - 70 years old and still going strong. Bob

And the Grumman Goose. I have spent a few hours in a Goose.

I went with a pilot to wash his Goose after landing it in saltwater. No garden hose in the hanger for that guy.

We landed on a small freshwater lake and I swear he was trying to sink the Goose!

He had water flying everywhere as he did donuts while high speed taxi-ing. The wings and engines were clean as were all the windows.
