10-22 guys. What are the most important aftermarket parts??

So I need another 10-22 like I need another hole in my head but I stopped by my local gun store Saturday and saw one of those flag/patriotic designed 10-22s.  I really thought it was attractive and fits my current political views right now.  So when he opens up I'm going to see if he still has it.  If so I will have another 10-22!!

What I'm looking for are the parts to make this 10-22 more user friendly and more reliable.  I'm not wanting to do a major overhaul and spend a bunch of money.  I have already done that 20 years ago and am still happy with the results!!  That 10-22 is way more accurate than I am!!

On this new 10-22 I definitely will do an extended mag release, a different extractor and an extended bolt handle, recoil rod.  So are there a few other parts I can put on that will improve my new rifles function and reliability???  20 years ago when I was doing this type of thing, up to and including new barrels, Volquartson was about the best aftermarket parts supplier for 10-22s.  Is this still true??  Or is there another outfit I should take a look at??

My goal is a reasonably accurate, easy to run, trouble free plinker!  Your thoughts are very welcome!

I'm still shooting the 10/22 that I bought new back in 1992. I could not even guess the amount of rounds fired or squirrels dispatched but I can tell you that the only reliability issue I have ever had has been either from using ammo that the gun didn't like or from getting too dirty to function properly. The only thing I did was change out to a Houge overmolded stock for better grip in inclement weather. Great little guns.

Trigger, I went cheap and bought a BX and even that made a world of difference. Got the extended mag release that wraps around the front of the trigger guard and works well and is low profile so it is hard to bump it accidentally. If you decide to change out the barrel, I can recommend McGowen. I had to wait 6 or 8 weeks for mine but it is excellent. Maybe after this gun price craziness is over I will do another one but I am not paying what some of these people want right now. Bob

The trigger on the new ones is terrible. Added a BX trigger to mine and couldn’t tell any improvement.

I have an older 10/22, and like most of them, the trigger sucked. After posting a thread, asking friends, and doing some internet research, I settled on these guys. I sent my trigger in, and what a difference it made. I went with the #2.

Well I don't know about the new 10/22's but the old ones ran just fine just the way they were. And I guarantee you my stock (except for the Kidd trigger) 10/22 heavy barrel target will shoot with any other 10/22. The only thing I will say is if you really care enough to spend the money buy a Kidd trigger. They are worth every penny if you want the best.

For one, you can drill any stripped holes out smaller.

Bought one at the local hardware store in 1968, never seen a need in modifying it, i do spray it down with WD-40 or PB blaster every decade or so. After firing untold rounds I can't even find a rust speck anywhere on it....

I know that many 10-22s run fine from day one but I like the extended bolt handle and the extended mag release.  I have had to put an extractor on several 10-22s and Mark II and IIIs so I figured I just may as well change the extractor as a form of insurance.  What I'm wondering is there any other modification that would be beneficial??

I have several 10/22s.  Some old, some newer.  The older ones all i did was season the barrel properly, and that improved accuracy a lot.  Then as my eyes got older, i put a peep sight setup on one.  Think it is the Williams RU22, but there are others available now.  Shoot good ammo, clean the bore properly, and it will be more accurate than you can shoot in normal field positions.

Trigger is the most important upgrade. Then BBL. Then stock. The mag release is already pretty extended.

Still shooting my 200th year 10/22, bone stock. The only part I have had to change was the ejector, (that I bent). Thousands and thousands of CCI Minimags through it. I have a couple more that I have modified in different ways, but my go-to is always "Old Faithful". Squirrels at 50 yards are in peril when I carry it.

I buy the stuff others take off to add "aftermarket" parts.  When a beat to snot ratty looking 10-22 shows up, I simply drag out a box of TO parts and after a paint job on the receiver, TaDa, it looks like new again. The most advantageous upgrade is a BX trigger. Not up to VQ or KIDD standards but generally a couple steps up from the factory unit.

Have a target model that shoots well right out of the box. My other pencil barrel has had a lot of rds thru it.
