The 53K Truck I am not going to buy......PIC

William81William81 Member Posts: 25,510 ✭✭✭✭
This has been my ride for the past three days or so......V8, rides nice and scoots right along...comfortable and roomy...I have been asked a dozen times or so if I am getting a new truck....My answer....Nope...Just a loaner while they fix an issue with my Bride's ride.....I think I will keep my 2015 F150 for the foreseeable future, but it is fun to drive something else once in a while......

53K ????   I hope they have the inside very tricked out, cause the outside does nothing for me.  53K ????  Good gosh

Lots of electronics, big display, elc.    Too nice for me !  Mine usually has half an inch of dust on it....when I wash it I forget how pretty a shade of blue it is !!

They are everywhere around here. Everybody has a new giant jacked up truck. Wonder what will happen to all those $600.00 month payments when things get bad. Oh wait, things are bad for some folks now. I have a friend driving a $68,000 GMC who hasn't worked in four months. Wonder if he would trade it for a ten year old truck with no payments right about now??

The problem is that you have to buy a bunch of things you don't want to get the few few things you do. If you want what should be a couple of hundred dollar option you find out it only comes as part of a couple thousand dollar package.😖 Bob

A friend wanted to buy a new F150 , but he wanted to order only the options he wanted. They told him they didn’t do that anymore. He went to the GMC dealer and the told him the same thing.

Buy an older truck and get what you want. And it will ride much better on 15" tires than on those freakin 19 or 20" thin crapy tires. Or pay the stupid price and buy what they think you should have.

My factory-ordered 2013 has 83k on it. Barely broken in. Inside seems almost new. Everything works. Had planned on trading / gifting it away in 2023 but now cannot see that happening. Want to get a cap and camp out of it as I ease into retirement.

Bring back vinyl interior extended cab (not crew cab), 3/4 ton 8' bed work trucks with a radio, power steering and brakes, for under $30k and I will buy one. Otherwise my days of buying a new truck are over.

My 2000 Dodge Ram with Cummins 5.9 now has 572,000 miles on it.  I ain't buying a new one for over twice the price I paid for my first house.

I miss the days when they sold basic work trucks for cheap..........now all the trucks are like luxury vehicles.

Agreed. I want a truck that works..not some wimpy anything smaller than a 3/4 ton.  And yes I could buy a new F350 loaded luxury liner. But why ? Just a waste of money, higher taxes, insurance.

Ram and Dodge off the police package trucks, Durango’s and Chargers to any public safety personnel- even volunteers, at the government rate.  I own a 2015 Ram for under 30 when I bought it. With the options it was a mid forties vehicle.     Have coworkers who will still buy stuff they just gotta have, and buy 3/4 ton rides they don’t need.   Then complain they don’t get paid enough.   What difference does it make? You would just have a loan on an even more expensive truck.

Still driving my F-150 XLT Lariat, with the camper package.  Got 326,000 (so far) on the original 5 liter V-8 and tranny.  But it is a 1985, and still running.

This is the truck I would have loved to own.  the 1997 Dodge Ram T Rex 6x6.
I've seen it displayed at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 1997.

My ‘99 Powerstroke doesn’t have a back up camera. That’s what mirrors are for.
  • susiesusie Member Posts: 7,694 ✭✭✭✭

I have to admit, I upgraded from a Chevy Silverado 2500HD work truck to a Z71 2500 HD. Both were 4x4.

Late hubbie became tired of no back up camera, Sirius radio and Bluetooth. Doing a lot of driving to and from Minnesota from Arkansas having the Sirius helped pass the time. Handsfree is a must nowadays with most state laws and hooking up with the backup camera is a breeze now that I'm doing it by myself.

At the end of March of this year I bought a new Ford to replace my 2007 F-250...which left me and the family stranded 3 times in the past 5 years hauling our toy hauler back from the desert. (Gotta love the 6.0 and the pathetic "turbo boots" that blow off!)

    I paid $53,500 for a new-old-stock 2019 F 350 6.7 XLT 4x4 Long Bed. They took $7,000 off for the trade in.

I wouldn't pay 50k for any 1/2 ton, they just don't hold enough or haul enough to justify the payments.

    Stay safe.

Ours is a '99 GMC SLT ExtCab Sierra 1500 Z71 4x4.  It's the 5.3L Vortec engine which is really great.  It will need the 100k service in a year or two...that will be new wiring, spark plug change, etc.  I might just get it all done early, but the urge to get a new used vehicle keeps surfacing.  We'll see.
    What's next?

Almost bought a 2019 Taco. Interior was a little too cramped for me. Got a 2019 4Runner instead.
    Much more roomy.

Electrical battery trucks will be the new craze before long but forget about high water driving or river/stream crossing with them.
