If I did not already have one of these, albeit not as nice as this one, I'd bid on it.  What a beauty, but the top bidder looks bound and determined not to be outbid.

    Holy mackeral.  Auction side bidding continues to astound me.  Almost (almost, but not quite) makes me want to look through what I have and see if I have a hidden gem.  

    But, a little voice in my head says, nope, hold on to EVERYTHING you have including ammo for which you don't have a matching firearm.

    That is a fine looking rifle.  I like his 76 Winchester too, for some reason I really like 76 Winchesters.

    It might not bring much more than what it is at right now.  Gretchen123 is the new leading bidder.  Susie and HPD, it does seem like a lot of money for a Winchester SRC carbine, but the 38-55 caliber in this condition is very hard to come by.  truthful, you would probably like my 38-55 carbine since it shows more wear.  It also has a scarce King Triple Bead Front Sight, aka Morning, Noon, and Night, plus a scarce King Tang Sight, neither of these are original to the gun.  It does not have the gum wood stock, but rather walnut.  Here's a pic:

    Boy, I do too, Sam, but I don't own one.  A fellow on GB offered me one that had the case colored receiver years back, but I couldn't let go of what he wanted, but now I realize that it was a very good deal.

    I always wanted one in 45-60 like Steve McQueen had in Tom Horn.

    In reality Tom Horn was using a 94 winchester in 30 WCF but that would not have been as cool as a 76.  Heck his horse and gun were the stars of that show.

    Great movie!  I never thought of it like that, but now that you mention his Winchester was a 30WCF, I have to agree!

    I know what you mean, Grunt2.  It's the caliber that jacks the price up on the 1894/94.  The way the market has been lately mine might be lucky to bring 2500 to 3000.  In this market, high condition, collectible guns appear to be holding their value...still a lot of money, though.
