Eight O'Clock Coffee ????

Some folks on here stated that they liked Eight O'Clock coffee so I bought a bag. As usual there are several varieties. I bought "100 % Colombian Peaks" a medium dark roast and I'm drinking my first pot now. I did one tbl. spoon per cup as I do for my Black Slick and am disappointed. It's bitter and the taste is bland. It is my first pot and I will give it at least one more chance but so far I greatly prefer the Black Slick. Is there another variety that you guys are drinking that might be better?

Ricci I don't drink coffee very often except when I was working in Africa. I think the African coffee is way better than stuff from Central/South America. Its an Arbaca bean and they grow it at over 6600' altitude on the slopes of Mt Kenya. The beans grown slower and really soak up the nutrients making the coffee really flavorful and strong. Plus it is where coffee is originally from.

I wish I had some left over but I drank all I brought home from my last job several years ago, I use a French press to make coffee it is what I am used to and I think it makes a good cup of joe.

When I was stationed in Panama I went to Costa Rica and visited a coffee plantation. They had some of their coffee to try and it was really good. I got 8 one pound bags of it to give to people for Christmas. Coming back to Panama I was searched at the entry and they saw the coffee. I got searched really well because they thought I was a smuggling cocaine. I also had a bunch of cigars I got there too.

The very best coffee Starbucks every sold was their "Ethiopian". I was a regular at Starbucks when I was dating a Cross Fit girl and that was her fav. Anyway they would brew their Ethiopian a couple times a year and I really liked it and would buy bags to brew at home. The last time I tried to get some the lady told me they had discontinued it. I really like the Black Silk but like to try different stuff from time to time. Did you ever try the stuff where they feed elephants coffee beans and wait for the beans to pass through the big boy?? Sounds like a great job harvesting the beans from the elephant. NOT!!

Ricci, I'll stick with Eight O'Clock, thank you. There are folks (like you, apparently) who like their coffee as thick as grease and burnt as charcoal, but I'm not one of them. Tastes vary.

We bring home Costa Rican coffee when we are there, it might be worth a trip. Here at home we drink Trader Joe's Cafe Pajaro.

If you can find coffee marked as being 100% Arabica, that is a great choice for many people since the caffein is a balance and generally won’t buzz you up with just one cup. The flavor can be adjusted by the grind size and amount used per cup.

Black Silk is a dark blend and roasted pretty deep.

Eight O’Clock coffee in the black bag is my favorite from years ago. Both sets of grandparents drank it while I was growing up.

There used to be a type of high altitude coffee named ‘Tip of the Andes’ which was strong and rich, loaded with caffein.

My brother is a coffee broker so I often get some of the best beans available right away. He designed an extraction brewer which makes the best coffee either cup by cup or fill a carafe.

if it is real bitter, try a pinch of salt in the grounds before you brew it, it seems to take the bitterness out for me.......

If my memory is working right today and there are days that are a crap shoot, 8 O' Clock Coffee used to be marketed and sold at A&P stores when I was growing up.

My folks always drank Maxwell House but occasionally did a bit of the 8 O' Clock when shopping there. I never picked up the coffee habit until my dad died. I was 36 years old at the time and my wife always was a coffee drinker, who fed me thinking it would help get me through the mourning process. Don't know if it did any good but I have continued sharing the pot every morning since.
