Pistol shipped USPS priority 3 day and hasn't arrived 1 month later
My FFL shipped a pistol I sold by USPS priority mail on 11/2/2020. I'm in Florida and the receiver is in Minnesota
USPS said it shipped from my town and they lost track of it and don't have record of it getting to Jacksonville, FL.
On 11/17 I filed a search request. But I've not heard anything from them for almost two weeks and I don't know how to contact them about this search request. When logged in and I enter my tracking number to file a claim USPS no longer shows me the status. The website says "Please enter a valid number"(I double and tripled checked the number). And if I'm not logged into my account it says "Information available soon" when entering the tracking number. It's almost like it disappeared.
Any of you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Go down and speak to your local postmaster, USPS has been having more than their share of problems. My wife has had 2 lost in the last month. Was it fully insured?
Yes, I was filing a claim when they said "Please enter a valid number". The same tracking # I've been using for a month.
They thought it was a box of absentee ballots for Trump and threw it out.
All I can say is good luck. They will drag it out for two to three months sending you still searching email before finally telling you they couldn't find it.
.
It takes some real tenacity to get them to pay a claim.....but don't give up and it will eventually be taken care of. Have the person that shipped it file the claim, the recipient is not the person that does this. They will deny it several times. Its taken 6 months and several attempts to get them to pay every claim we've ever dealt with. Its not often, less than one a year, but there is nothing you can do but fight them to get it taken care of.
Would getting the ATF involved speed things up?
Good luck! My nephew had to ship a brand new Beretta pistol back to the factory and UPS lost it and has never found it. And fighting the claim still.(I’m sure some driver has it now).
I wondered the same.

I mailed a rifle to a buddy, in state - resident to resident - totally legal.
USPS broke the stock so we filed a claim for damages.
They threatened to charge me with illegally mailing a handgun.
Good luck!
You may want to download the Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide (ATF P5300.4). Your FFL is required by law to notify the ATF of any guns documented to him that are lost or stolen. I would ask him to send a copy of his report to you, & a copy to the Postmaster General in Washington.
If you are unsure which way to handle this, phone your local ATF office & ask to speak to an agent. Agents are generally glad to help folks.

This one is easy and all too common. it was stolen by a USPS employee.
Would also bring this to the attention of the US Postal Inspection Service.
Postal inspectors are like clowns in circus. After dealing with two it was like, ok, looks like it was lost. And now $1225 MO's are out there somewhere in the abyss, tracking be damned. Getting anything done with anybody right now is a joke and it's on me.
The USPS will use every excuse and lie possible to avoid paying an insurance claim.
I no longer buy insurance. Lose it, I eat it. Break it, send it back and I'll salvage it.
Hi;
I want to find a FFL close to my location in Los Angeles; is there a list that I can refer too.
Thank you in advance
I'm not sure how this question ties in with a missing pistol, but you can use this page to find dealers near you:

Thank you; I wish to apologize for using this forum for my question, but the weapon should have a tracking number along with (forgive me) insurance. Because of the current pandemic; the weapon might have been misplaced or inadvertently shipped to an area that has not been determined by the shipper(s). I had some items shipped to me later than was expected, but in the end it arrived; keep the faith
I've thought of that more than once.
That's what got this post started, I freaked Sunday when I entered the tracking number to file a claim and USPS said not a valid #. And yes I tripled checked the number.
The site worked today and I filed the claim.
Thanks, I didn't know that especially since I have already filed a search request(which I can't find out how to get the status of). Also, I filed a claim just now.
Thanks again
Standby to standby....
This may take a while.
