I've done a couple hunts in Texas where they had Nilgai available and they were advising 30-06 are larger
Out of season, or just too small of rack?😋
The problem is they have really good eyesight and shots can be long plus the fact they are tough and large animals.
I think I would look at a 300 mag with a real good bullet in the 190-210gr range that was very accurate in that particular rifle. I would top it with a good quality scope(Leupold, Burris, Night force) in the 4-12x range. Get a Range finder so if you do have to take a longish shot you will know your come-ups.
Knowing that, I would practice with the gun shooting out to long range and in different conditions and positions.
I would look at one of these:
And top it with a Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40 scope with the Boone and Crockett reticle.
It would be a little heavy but that helps with recoil and makes the rifle steady.
Most outfitters require a high power 30 caliber, as in 30-06 as a minimum. 300 Win mag or a .375 is preferred. I have heard they are wary but I did see a large bull walking down the main street of Falfurrias one evening. They are very large animals so a sturdy bullet is required.
Thanks for the replies
