While I was shooting the 44 mags last week I also pulled out the 357 mags. I have a good friend who I ride dirt bikes and golf with. He is from South Africa and came here in 1990. We were out golfing one day(he is just about a scratch golfer) and I asked him if he ever did much shooting. He said the only shooting he did was in the Army in the 80's.
Well I called him up when I was shooting the 44's and the 357's and he came by and did a lot of shooting. He liked the 44 mags but he really liked my 357 Magnums.
Here is what I have in that flavor:
S&W 586 6"
Ruger Blackhawk 6.5"
Ruger SP101 3"
S&W M19 6" and a 4" both blue
Dan Wesson with a 6" and a 8" barrel and shroud.
I thought I had a T/C barrel but if I do I couldn't find it. I also thought I had a S&W M27 but then I realized I had sold it 2 years ago...........Old age and too many guns.
I had about 500 rounds of 357 Mag loaded with Hardcast 158gr GC SWC bullets and AA#9 or 2400 with CCI SMP primers. I also had some 38 SPL that was loaded light with red dot or blue dot.
We had fun. He liked the S&W M19 6" the best, my favorite is the S&W 586 6". It was fun getting them, I don't think I have shot some of them in 10 years as I don't shoot much 357 or 38.

Old age I understand but what is this to many guns you speak of?????
Well I got kind of PO'ed about the T/C barrel because I know I had one in 357. I looked everywhere in both gun safes in the reloading room even the garage where I clean my guns.
Then I looked in my closet where I keep some gun related crap and there it was good as new. 12" T/C barrel with a Burris 2x on it. I also found a super 14 22lr barrel still in the box😆 I had totally forgot about. Now I have all my T/C stuff in one area.
Man old age is a bummer but it beats the alternative.
Cool! I really would like a 4" model 27, but WOW on the prices those things bring. A model 28 would be fine with me too, especially if it saved me some serious coin. I doubt that though, last time I checked they were almost on par with model 27 prices. I would like to get a model 19 too.
I do have a 4" model 66, and a 3" model 13.
That 3" M13 is worth some serious coin.
I had a guy offer me a M27 8 3/8" nickle for $850, I passed on it but I should have taken the deal in hindisght. I could have sold it for more than that.
I really miss my old .357 Security Six with 4 inch barrel that was stolen along with a bunch other guns at the time. It was my main carry gun for a long while. It was stainless steel and a sweet shooter. If anyone comes across serial number 157-40224, I'd like to know about it.
T-bolt I had a 6" SS Security six that was a heck of a good shooting gun. I traded it for something I doubt I have anymore but I wish I had that Ruger back.
I have a 4” Model 66, no dash, my first duty weapon in the late 70’s, bought it for $250 from another deputy. Times sure have changed. Love that piece, there’s a story or two that go with it. Also a GP100 3”, has a really nice trigger, right from the factory. Both are nice shooters.
That Gp is one of my favorite revolvers. The 3" is cool with those great "round butt" grips.
I have a couple of .357’s, but never shot them much. Todd gave me a good deal on a brand new set of dies and I have been scrounging components. Tool man generously gave me a bunch of brass, so I need to get busy.
I want to do a side by side comparison of the S&W 66 and the 686.
The Model 66 is my favorite. I like the GP 100 too, but seem heavy compared to the smith.
They are heavy, no argument there. The weight seems to help lessen muzzle flip on the shorter GP. There were a few times the extra beef on the 66 helped “settle” an issue without more drastic action being required.
Sold my Colts and kept a Ruger Security Six 6" Stainless
A deceased pistol guild society smith in Chapin SC looked at one of my 3" Smiths 13's and it was actually modified for the FBI. He put some sort of marking for ID. He was contacted by them to modify their 4" 13's.
And I was on the Ruger Development R&D Team. 😉 (Remember that one?)
Get out of here Ken no chit! What did you help Ruger develop?
I helped develop Worls Klass Ruger 10/22's. High end ones, painted Red, or some other obnoxious color.
Once I figured how to drill holes smaller, I was in like Flynn. 😉

Thinking of buying a new Colt King Cobra in a 3" as a carry piece.
357 magnum is my favorite handgun round (other than maybe 22lr). I have a GP 100 with 4" barrel. I have a Rossi 92 in 357 as well.
Chapin ,S.C. former home of Ellet Bros. Been there a few times and even took a Sig armorer's course there.
It's no cream puff. It's not junk either, but is been carried a lot and has seen some use. So she ain't worth top dollar. Word around the campfire is it's been to Afghanistan and back. No idea if that's got any truth to it or not. I call it my FBI gun.
been yrs ago I took him a Colt to tune the action better. He went to the hospital in the interim period the gun was at his shop. Died and his widow returned it to me. For the life of me I cannot remember his name but when he built the FBI pieces he lived in Conn. and worked in law enforcement. His name is in the pistol guild society he was top dog one yr. Had to look it up..

The 3 1/2" nickel N frame 27 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful handguns ever made. I had one last year in like new condition from an estate that I almost bid on myself.
Shooting a 357 and driving a truck with a 318 Detroit back in the 70s,without hearing protection is some of the reasons my wife grumbles about me not listening to her.I cant hear.

I have more .357s than I need. I don't shoot the big stuff much anymore mainly the .22s.

Have a Model 66 w/ a 5 inch barrel that I love- shoots well, pretty gun- and was my Dad's.
But I have to admit my best SHOOTING .357 is a Dan Wesson 15-2. Monson gun. I have used that one for Eastern White Tail. 10 inch heavy, shooting 185 grain hard cast handloads. If you did your part, it would drop them like a bad habit.
Nice wood on the 27 and 28. You know I don't remember ever seeing a pretty set of factory Colt revolver grips. Well I did have a New Service .44 Special Target and I think that one had nice wood.
I bought a 28-2 brand new in 1980 for about $250. This was full retail price but I really wanted it. It has shot only .357 magnum ammo, never any .38 Special. My favorite was a 158 gr. @ 1300 fps. It has fired almost 30,000 rounds with never a broken part or spring replaced. I shot over 30 deer with it with good results. It hasn't been fired since 2012 but I may take it out one of these days and warm it up.
Smith and Wesson has really made some fine guns over the years. And the .357 is a great caliber.
Got a stainless 6" Security Six .357 that is my favorite wheelgun.
I like the patridge sight on the 586, I don't think I have seen one on a 586 before.
You need another 357, you just dont have that many 😁
