Anyone tried one? A member of our lease cooked a whole wild hog on one the day before rifle season. Talk about GOOD!! Fall off the bone tender, and absolutely no peeking for at least 3 hours, then turn the meat over for 3 more hours. The best way I can describe it is that it is a metal lined wooden box with a metal lined wooden lid that is recessed so you can put charcoal in it. If he hadn't wrapped the pig in wire, we wouldn't have been able to get it out without breaking it up into small pieces.
You can buy them for $200-300, but his is home built. (less than $150, including the cypress lumber) Just don't use galvanized sheet metal!
Google calls them "Caja China's". Saw one being used on TV one time.

We used to just make a rectangle out of cinder blocks and run rebar through the hog, add coals to the edges of the cinder block cooker and after a night of drinking beer you had a cooked Hog
Pretty awesome contraption...but good BBQ has to have some smoke!!!
