Charley Pride — a sharecropper's son who rose from rural Mississippi to become the first Black superstar in country music — died Saturday at age 86.
The "Kiss An Angel Good Mornin" singer died in Dallas, Texas, due to complications from COVID-19, according to a news release from his publicist, Jeremy Westby.

I guess he'll be kissing a real angel in the morning. Rest in peace, Charlie.
He was good and well liked. Too many good people going that route.
Yep, sure enough. I always liked Charlie's music. RIP Mr. Pride

My parents loved him back in the day...........I still have vinyl albums. RIP to a great country singer.
RIP I always liked his music
Always like his music. Just watched Country Music by Ken Burns, had a nice segment about him.
Little known fact, before he was a country star he was a pitcher in the negro leagues.
My dad loved him, they were both from Mississippi.
We saw him perform in the Greenville Texas Municipal Auditorium several years ago. He was a great musician, and he always seemed like a genuinely nice man. RIP Charley!
he played low level pro baseball with 2 Montana teams......Missoula Logjammers and the East Helena Smelterites. kinda sounds like roller derby team names
