When the BATF was still a regulatory agency within the US Treasury, the Reagan administration planned to roll the ATF into the US Secret Service, with a resulting cut to their operating budget.
That never happened. Once the BATFE became a part of the United States Department of Justice in 2003, budget cuts seem even less likely now.
DEMOCRATs have wanted a national police force for several decades now. At the same time ending state and local control over all law enforcement. Certainly such is proscribed by the US CONs, but then DEMOCRAT disdain for the US CONS is no longer a secret. Give them the power, DEMS will expunge the US CONs and enact a socialist state.
They already have several national police agencies, FBI, ATF, Marshall's service, Secret Service and even the national park police. I know they want to do away with small town police and county sheriffs as they both are a thorn in the side of the politicians because they answer to the voters and not the Feds. Bob
The county’s 2020-21 budget proposes to decrease their workload by 15%. County officials say it’s a move that will reduce duplicate efforts and unnecessary costs. The county also has proposed to remove38 deputy constable positions in an effort to save $2.7 million.
“The ones that are going to be affected here is going to be the deputies and their families. It seems like they don’t care about these officers that we have. they have been performing the best they can with what they have. and it’s a shame for them to be doing what they’re doing,” said Precinct 1 Constable Ruben C. Tejeda.
Might be a scheme to have the comrade police volunteer police force instead?
