The last day of Muzzle Loader/Primitive season in MO and.........PIC
The last several days have not been suitable for me to be able to hunt safely, but finally today was about perfect so I headed out in the afternoon. I tried to still hunt and saw close to 20 deer. Those old does in the groups have great eyes and every time I got close to being in range, one would blow and off they would run.
The last group I was stalking had at least 15 in it. One was a nice buck, two others were shooters and a couple of forkies. They caught me sneaking in and off they went. I headed cross county to where I figured they would finally come out....I was just getting out my ground blind out and here came 6 of them. All does and yearlings.
I kneeled down and Maaa'ed and this doe stopped at about 80 yards. DRT... I walked over to her and here came 4 more. I made the mistake of not reloading so there I was kneeling next to her and here came 4 more...by the time I got reloaded it was too late..
She is at the locker.....deer sticks, summer sausage and breakfast sausage coming as well as some steaks and
backstrap....Can't wait !!!!

Congratulations on a successful, if you had weather like we did in SWMO, it was a great day to hunt.
Nice!
The guy who hunts on my property killed a ugly buck Monday. The buck had a single long horn on one side and a crab claw on the other.
I got a tender loin from him.
CVA ? nice looking outfit , what bullet/loader combo?
Congrats on a good hunt
CVA Eclipse, Nikon scope. 3 pellets of 777 and a 245 gr. Powerbelt...The combo has worked well for me over the past ten years
congrats, but is that deer big enough to get sticks, sausage, and steaks out of?? around here the deer processers want at least 25 pounds of meat before they will make sticks, or summer sausage for you, after deboning the average deer, you are very lucky to have 25 pounds total meat including the backstraps.
She was about 160 pounds so I think I will be fine....
Bout 53 pounds of meat would be my guess.
Congratulations only season i get to go out in.
congrats that will be some good eating
Good eating for sure. I was hoping to get a doe to add meat to the freezer. The young buck I put there is going to have to do me for the year.
Does your county control the number of deer you can shoot?
When I was in North Kansas City, we could shoot one then go get another tag and shoot another. This could go on, I suppose?
Best.
Yes, it varies by county, it used to be unlimited does in my county, now it is two with a rifle. It's unlimited does during archery season, either 2 bucks during archery or 1 buck archery and 1 buck rifle.
That's what I was wondering. It's been a few years since I hunted there so I figured something had changed. Too bad really since the farmland we hunted was overrun by deer and the farmer had to resort to depredation instead of hunting tags. End result may be close to the same though. Less crop destruction by eradicating the crop destroyers.
Thanks!
Best.
I use Black Horn 209 with Powerbelt in my T/C, those Powerbelts load so much nicer than other bullets and seem to do just as good a job
Good job. I got shutdown due to lack of freezer space and the local Share the Harvest cooperating locker has run out of space/time/motivation.
End of alternative methods season means I can use 20 round mags for coyote hunting again. With the large "packs" of yoties running around I felt under gunned with only 10 rounds.
Nice.
I hunted with my AR15 pistol about 4 days of Missouri's alternate method season and gave up. Didn't see anything.

What caliber are you using? We've been using a couple of 10.5" 300AAC AR pistols and this year I intended to try a new 7.62x39 but wasn't going to waste a deer just to see how well that one worked. Can't find a short 6.8 barrel but maybe some will show up before November.
I used my 10.5 inch barrel 223. I've been debating a 300 black but delayed on it.
I'm putting off reloading but will need to break out that equipment soon and then will reevaluate. I have 3 AR pistols all in 223. With currant affairs, I'm not investing much more into them.
Missouri's Department of Conservation just made a ruling on what they consider the overall length of a pistol to be. 26 inches and under is the current law (not including a removable muzzle device). A 10.5 inch barrel AR pistol with flash suppressor and brace is about perfect. A longer barrel will require a shorter buffer tube.
“Any firearm originally designed, made, and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one (1) or more barrels when held in one (1) hand, and having a short stock designed to be gripped by one (1) hand at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s), with a barrel less than sixteen inches (16”) in length, measured from the face of the bolt or standing breech (excluding any muzzle device not permanently attached to the barrel), and an overall length less than twenty-six inches (26”) as measured between the muzzle of the barrel and the rearmost portion of the firearm (excluding any pistol brace, muzzle device, or other firearm accessory not permanently attached to the firearm). The use of a pistol brace is specifically authorized, and a second hand may be used for support when firing.”

Interesting conversation on what constitutes a pistol for hunting in MO.....It has me thinking about next year and options for hunting...Thanks for posting the info...
I find I do more hunting than actually killing. I only got that small button buck at the start of rifle season.
Might have another chance to put a Florida Hog in the freezer. Supposed to drive down there next week but that might not happen.
Here's what I hunted with most recently:
Good post on the rules and regulations, clearly stated.
You could also cut the barrel down an inch and stay with the longer buffer tube. Whack off an inch then re-thread for flash suppressor/brake. Use a thread protector when necessary. More ways to skin a cat to stay within the rules.
Best.
Very true.
