Type 53 Mosin Nagant

bullshotbullshot Member Posts: 14,737 ✭✭✭✭

My buddy has a 1955 Chinese Type 53 Mosin Nagant that he brought back from Vietnam, it is a battlefield pick up. He said that the paper work allowing him to bring it home was issued by the Vietnamese government not the US, the paperwork is not even in English.

Anyone have any idea if they have any value, he is not interested in getting rid of it because of the way he acquired it but was curious.

This is absolutely a "value in the eye of the beholder" situation. I once saw a Browning Hi-Power in horrible condition for $750. It had been converted to 7.62x25 by the communists.

I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

No federal agency cares how he acquired it, or whether or not it is import marked.

The rifle in question should bring a 50-100% premium with US military bring back documentation; but, not a lot of collectors read Vietnamese. Not likely anyone many folks will take your buddy's word for it.

Pretty sure he doesn't give a rat's behind if anyone believes him and he wouldn't part with the rifle anyway but I would think that if that is the paperwork issued to him by the VN government, then it must have been common practice at the time and therefore verifiable.
