130,000+ School Systems in the US
Over 130,000 school systems in the US. Can you imagine the cost of all those facilities, all those teachers, all those buses, all those lunches, all those miles traveled each day by students and teachers, all that pollution creating by the transportation and buildings.
For almost a year we have demonstrated that remote learning can be accomplished from home.
I wonder why we can't downsize the entire operation and go computer-based instruction....
Each state could create one curriculum for each grade, standardizing our children's education.
Computer-based education can easily be self-paced allowing "faster" students to move ahead. All students learn better at their own pace.
The savings in time, money and pollution would be enormous.
Enormous! I tell you.

The savings in my property taxes would be ENORMOUS.
School issues are almost 60% of my taxes.
All those funds would not be going where they have in the past.
But then...
What would the unemployment rate be for 3.7 million teachers?
In both private and public school classrooms: 3.2 million in public schools and 0.5 million in private.
Add in about half million bus drivers, or more.
School buses are the largest mass transit program in the U.S.
What is the cost of gas, maintenance, new buses, etc.?
Total = ENORMOUS
Now people can chime in about how (some? a lot?) of kids are not learning remotely.
The loss of the social interaction issue.
The LACK of babysitting during the day, if the kids are at home.
Someone has to stay home with them, which keep that parent from bringing in any income.
We were all brought up, going to school.
Both parents could bring in an income.
Imagine....if you will.....if remote learning was the way we were brought up, all this would BE normal.
Things have - and do change.
Females were banned from working once upon a time, along with not having the right to vote.
People could own slaves.
You can add your own things that have changed over time.
Can this?
I used to teach and am in contact with a Freshman English teacher through this BS. You are correct. This could all be done from home. The catch is that a high % of the kids will not do their homework, have the computer on to watch the teacher/class and would learn nothing. We are "educating" enough idiots as is, we don't need even even more idiots/demoncraps/commies!!
This will never happen across public schools.
But why would we remove free day care
Some students don't have families to teach them how to behave.
IMO the US school system is broke. It is run by a bunch of commie libtard woke intellectuals who mind [deleted] kids and turn them into America haters.
We need a reset.....but not the kind the libtards and sleepy joe want.
There is another side to this remote learning that people have not considered.
With kids staying home to attend classes, one of the parents must be there or hire a full time baby sitter/nanny to be there. Yes you could leave middle and high school kids alone, but not elementary aged kids. So either one parent must quit work to be home at all times or the pay they are making goes to paying someone to be with their kids.
As mentioned, lack of social interaction is getting worse through this distance learning. Kids today were already too deeply buried in technology and not engaging with kids their own age (physically that is) and this has just gotten worse. One of my friends daughter is a teacher and she has seen a marked decline in how her students behave over the last 9 months.
There is tremendous value in face to face learning, particularly for the younger students. Absent engaged parents, many are being left behind both academically and socially.
Remote learning has a place, but it is not, IMO in K - 12. It would also be a problem for STEM classes where FTF with TAs is of enormous value in college.

Wait... Free education in the public schools is about to reach to Free College. by Sleepy Joe. I am thinking about starting a non profit White College Fund just like the Black Negro Fund. Mine would be for poor underprivileged White students that cannot afford to pay to go to College.
Some say they're spending five times more on some inner city students' educations than what stopped making a difference in their standardized test scores.
Why would they? Perhaps to make sure they are trained to behave by rote for as long as they can?
2 local communities within the county plan on going back to regular school days starting on Jan. 19th.
Blessing my Dr. Educator retired at the right time.
Yep, wonder why you children come home hating America and have an overall bad attitude. DEMOCRATs control most public schools.
How would you like to be a kid with REMOTE "learning?" We have gone through this part of the school year and I can tell you it is BS.
A far better option would be school choice.
You could send your kids to whatever school you choose, and your tax money would be applied there.
If you didn't think the curriculum at your local public school appropriate, you could send your kids to a private school. Perhaps one with non-unionized teachers or a faith based education. Point is, your school tax money would be yours to spend as you see fit. Unlike the government run education system we have today, where even with parents on the school board, there is little oversight of the government and teachers union. I sent my kids to a Christian school on my own dime while my tax money went to build a new school and gym, and pay teachers to indoctrinate students in the ways of social justice and other such causes.
I did without a new car and fancy things to make it happen. And it was the best money I could have spent. They learn about things that matter to me and represent my values. No common core nor transgenderism. And they went to school with other kids in the same situation. Do they suffer from not being immersed in other "cultures"? No. Could my school have made better use of my tax dollars than the public school? Absolutely.
son teaches college and does the same, gave a few classes from daytona beach hotel room. but as grasshopper said, some kids just don't learn without a teacher in class to watch over them, granddaughter has trouble paying attention and just won't pay attention to the computer screen, she is having trouble in math because of the way they teach it now, common core I think they call it, I can't even help her as she isn't allowed to do the math the way I was taught even though it is easier, and I now have her all messed up on fractions because I showed her my way instead of their "proper" way, they are going back to in class teaching next week and the teacher has agreed to give her a little more one on one attention, and by the way the teachers are all saying they have been told to pass everyone no matter the grades
