Been there yrs ago. He is cashing out... at 72 time to enjoy. Some very nice examples. All GM
The 58 - 61 Corvettes were some pretty automobiles. Looks like there are few there.

Greenies are going to kill this market and the owner is smart to dump now.

I'd love to get one of those old Sting Rays.
State your sources... that dog isn't hunting. The classic car market is strong.
I wonder if Great Guns will attend or if he is unfortunately contracted out to the Ayatollah for a classic meal at that time ?...........π

Just look a the overall picture. When we die off and we will there will be IMO a market flood of classic autos and the millennials do not know or care about classics. Give it 5-10 years and we will revisit this if we are both here, God willing. (IF I can remember this)
Great Guns does Maseratis and Ferrari . I highly doubt in his lifetime and mine he will buy another L88 Corvette for 10k dollars. I've made profits on classics buy not close to the 200 Thousand I helped him make on the L88.
We fancy that we will leave our "large collection" of "stuff" to a museum one day. That way it will be preserved forever.
Then we see a museum close and the collection auctioned of . . . and we wonder why we didn't just auction it off and enjoy the money ourselves.
To bad they are all Chevy's.
Yeah and who are buying Gas Harley's now? I own a old diesel truck built like a tank and I am no fan of losing it but just like in California they are coming for it especially with The Democrats being in charge now.

The countryβsΒ largest motorcycle manufacturerΒ recently announced that it will be eliminating 700 jobs worldwide and that 500 employees will be out of work by the end of 2020, reflecting a 14 percent overall workforce reduction. The long-tenured CFO John Olin is leaving theΒ struggling company, on the heels of CEO Matt Levatich. Harley-Davidsonβs president and newly-appointed CEO, Jochen Zeitz, announced that βsignificant changes are necessary, and we must move in new directions.β
Gasoline will be around for quite some time. Folks with classics don't worry about the cost to maintain or drive. They can afford them. The fact the young folks are not into them. Not quite true. They may not like the older 40's and some 50's that the owners are not around anymore but 60's and 70's cars are still hot on the market. And now the 80 stuff is showing a great price increase. Cars are still a hobby for a lot of folks and auctions wont be going away .
I have been trying to find a 61 Impala at a fair price for the condition. It appears they are extinct.
Yep, one myth is that the young kids did not grow up with them, so thus do not identify with em. That is true to an extent, but just as diamonds and gold are always desired, so are the classics. There is no substitution for fine art, and many cars are just that.
Many cars are ugly from day one.
Model A's and T's, will be a historical thing only. But pure muscle and sleek design will always be in fashion. It transcends generations.
I want the 59 El Camino, and if you bid against me, Iβll, Iβll, Iβll NR your auctions!!! Yeah thatβs the ticket! :)
Thanks for that chart.... It appears the market is very strong. Don't always look at graphs..the don't always tell the story. Barrett Jackson, Mecum are auctioning cars. Of course if you don't have any classics it is easy to complain... they cost too much. 67 Corvettes, Chevelles , are doing fine. Just wait and see what this coming auction brings on those fine GM classics.
Trend with covid19 did affect the market a little. Folks didn't attend auctions and some just sat tight. Upcoming year hopefully will get it out of the way ..

Wait until the carbon tax comes down on the people. It will become progressive but I guess if cash is no problem then making those automobiles comply to a national EPA retro fit might become a problem for some to drive them anymore.. They will be banned one day to even to crank it up. Bet on it. You cannot drive diesels in cities in Europe without modern emission control even today now.
serf
Now that is hilarious. Retrofit with what? EPA standards were met when the cars were built... IF EPA even existed. We are not in Europe... However most in my collection aside my lawn mower meet EPA standards. I reckon racing of all sorts will be illegal too huh? SC doesn't even inspect cars... π
A federal mandate is The EPA not a state right. All those deleted diesels out there will be the first to be corrected. Just look at the diesel brothers for reference. I suspect you can hang a Catalytic convertor on an old auto easy enough. You won't be buying any two cycle engines very long from now and I suspect the military will be dumping diesel generators soon enough.

Some researchers investigated solutions aiming at reducing the dependency on fossil fuels during prolonged emergencies by proposing self-contained demonstration units that make use of hybrid generation from solar, wind, and biomass and, minimally, fossil sources [12]. Some of these systems have already been introduced to the market, as described below. Besides micro grids, clusters of electricity sources and load operating systems are being used to improve the reliability of electrical grids, manage the addition of distributed clean energy resources like wind and solar photovoltaic generation, reduce fossil fuel emissions, and provide electricity in areas not served by centralized electrical infrastructure
Went a Mecum auction near here, over 200 autos, owner had never driven some of them.
They were very nice and spotless to say the least. Prices were waaaay over the top. 20 or so had reserves but the remainder. were without reserve.
Something fishy about the whole thing though.
Absolutely nonsense. Gasoline vehicles will be around for a very long time.
Collectable items took a bad hit in the Obummer era. Cars, guns, anything. They have slowly crawled up in the last few years.
The real deal nice stuff is bringing a premium.
Gasoline and fossil fuels will be around until most all of us on the GB forum are long gone.
High gasoline prices do have an effect on the amount of miles driven but very little.
