It's a variant of the old of the Browning 1910 with "target" thumbrest stocks and adjustable sights. After the Gun Control Act of 1968 made importing the standard 1910 impossible, FN marketed this pistol as (among other designations) the 10/71. Like all FN products from back in the day, they are well made pistols, but honestly, who wanted to buy a target pistol in 380 ACP? They didn't stay around long and are scarce today.
They had to take a sleek firearm and adhere like Mark said to a “law.” They are in person rather unsightly. The price is fair on his IF you want one.
Owned one years back, bought it just for the heck of it. It was during the first Obumer ammo panic. So .380 was hard to come by. Shot OK, but definitely wasn't any sort of a Target pistol.
Only thing I could figure. Was FN had a lot of the standard model ,1922,.380's in their stock rooms. That they couldn't sell anywhere. So they had the bright idea, to convert them to target pistols for the U.S. market.
Wild looking piece with adjustable sights
Got one. Was an orphan in the back case of my gunsmith. Needed a mag. $150 out the door. He was happy, I was happy- and it is a fun little plinker.
Sure looks like the original Remington 51.
