Actually seems to me that NOTHING "we" do has any affect. Voting-no. Protesting-no. Contacting our elected officials-no.
The "other side" will always have the upper hand mostly because they have the money and influence to simply overshadow whatever legal protests the citizens may display.
They have the upper hand because they are willing to break any and all laws that stand in their way.

The average person is tilting toward having the state protect them. The USA was formed by mostly white Europeans who suffered discrimination from Kings and priests.
