Prayer request, going under the knife tomorrow
So an update on my Cancer battle, after completing the chemo and radiation I became a candidate for esophagectomy and lymphectomy surgery.
Essentially the treatments worked well enough to warrant an attempt to remove all the remaining diseased tissues through this surgery. They will make a new esophagus out of my stomach and reconnect me. I go in tomorrow at 6am and they expect 6-8 hours of surgery along with 5-7 days in the ICU afterwards.
After finally healing up from the rad/chemo treatments and being in great spirits and health (I can eat anything right now) I seriously considered just rolling the dice and living life at 100 MPH until the cancer comes back and gets me. That could have been 2 weeks or ten years, no one knows.
After getting a second opinion from another thoracic surgeon who looked at my scans and case pro bono and said he would not personally go through with this, I have prayed about it and decided trying the surgery is my best long term option even though 80% of patients still have the cancer return. 1 in 3 patients experience serious complications. I have faith that what will be, will be.
It is said if two or more gather in my name, so I ask those of you who are believers to join with me and hopefully if it is his will I will return to this world and continue to have the opportunity to live on this earth for awhile longer.
If not I've certainly enjoyed the fellowship and opportunity to annoy the Admins and Mods over the years!
God Bless
Bill

That’s a tough decision, like the others above you’ll be in the prayers.
Like Smitty said, think about showing your wife how to log in and drop an update here. You have a lot of virtual friends here that care.
Mogley98, Sometimes it seems like when it rains it pours. Last Wednesday my best friend and hunting partner of over 55 years passed away. I just got back from Westchester Medical Center with my wife last week. In July she was double pneumonia with mass in left lung and too weak for biopsy procedure. Few weeks ago down windpipe for less invasive biopsy while she had pneumonia again in left lung. At Westchester they went after approx.3" Atypical Carcinoid Tumor with Laser down her windpipe. Radiation and Chemo are out. Stroke three years ago, two stents and ablation in heart. a-fib, knee replacement from stroke fall, blood thinner, 82 years old . High risk!
Don't know if I will ever make it back to Virginia Mogley, but darn it, I keep trying. From now on I will just leave it up to God.
Want you to know I think its wonderful that you you are venturing to tread where many are afraid to go. Perhaps your actions will help others. I believe God is on your side and all of us here on the "Forum" are praying for you.-------------------Ray (Native Son of Virginia)
