What would keep this from being a NFA item?

I know they weren't made at the factory with this length barrel. Looks to me like a cut down with a bead installed. I hope this is an honest mistake or a typo on the barrel length but they have it in the title and body. No tape measure photos to compare. I e-mailed the seller asking for clarification. I'll let you know how he responds.

I think NFA barrel length is 18 inches. So it just might be a NFA item. Barrel length might be determined by who does the measuring, and where they measure from. As in front or back of chamber.
Overall length is good but 17 inch barrel is the catch. Put a poly choke on it and good to go.
Mark C will be along sometime today
UPDATE:
I received the below response from the seller:
Hello, it really is about 18 1/4” because it screws into the back part a long way. I measured to the site
That explanation was clear as mud.
The way ATF agents measure a barrel is to close the bolt, & stick a dowel (or cleaning rod) down the bore & put a small piece of tape on the dowel at the front end of the barrel. Remove the dowel, & measure the length up to the tape.
Cutting the barrel is an alteration that removes it from the C&R category.
Apparently he now understands, after 2 attempts, that you are expected to pay for the items that you win at auction.

I guess my question and link to ATF/NFA info spooked him as he has ended the auction. Maybe he will relist as a 18-1/4" barrel.
The barrel grew one inch and is now 18"
It's amazing how fast that can happen 😉.
I have socks just like those.
Maybe he got a hold of Ricci's fertilizer that he was using on the top break NA 22 mag.
Back part, Hum.
You laugh. That thing is the size of a Scofield now.
Better get it out and wash it off or the Navy will want to use it for a deck gun
An inch too short will get the feds' attention. Unless it is a Mossberg Shockwave with 14 inch barrel. I never could understand how they get away with that but I am glad they do.
Same with a Henry mares leg. Must be a pistol.
The Baftards will kill your wife, son & dog for less than an inch too short. I wonder if a rifled shotgun barrel can be 16"?
"I wonder if a rifled shotgun barrel can be 16"?"
That would be a NO. It's still a shotgun barrel.
The Mossberg Shockwave and various other knockoffs use the odd shaped grip to make the overall length over 25.5" therefore it falls into its own category called "pistol grip firearm", not "shotgun" or "pistol".
The various Mares Legs do not have buttstocks and have rifled barrels so yes, they are classified as handguns, pistol specifically.
Ken I am sure if you really work at it you could learn to run a pump shotgun. It's really not that much more complicated than a single shot and that way in case of a home invasion you could use just one gun instead of running all over your house grabbing a single shot, firing it, dropping it and running to the next one and then to the next one.
