When you ship a pistol are you exempt from using overnight? I just shipped a handgun, because I am not a dealer I had to use overnight UPS or FedEx so it cost $100 to ship it I would probably be better off to take it to a dealer and pay them to ship? Have One more going tomorrow that’s why I’m asking

I thought I was doing buyer favor by not using a dealer on my end . Dumb me . Now I split it with him and lost another 50 on the deal trying to make him happy .
Dealers are not exempted from the air shipping rules established by UPS and FedEx, but large volume shippers such as big firearms wholesalers, can negotiate much lower rates. Because dealers are allowed to use the US Mail for handguns, most of use it almost exclusively.
I normally charge $25 plus the actual mailing costs. Figuring flat rate Priority Mail with insurance; you'd be looking at $25-$30 in mailing costs. That deal can save you up to 50% of the UPS shipping cost, and it puts an easy $25 in my pocket!
Believe me some local FFL dealer is going to get their fee tomorrow . Thank you for the answer I knew there had to be some explanation because I’ve never paid that kind of money to have one shipped to me when I was a buyer
Something to keep in mind: The "overnight shipping" for pistols is NOT a law, but a RULE from UPS/Fedex.
SO, you can legally ship it without telling them it is a pistol, but you open yourself up to a whole bunch of problems if it is stolen. Also, if it is stolen, you can forget about collecting the insurance. And if someone does steal it, and shoots someone, you will be sued, 100% sure on that.
Good luck, it depends how much risk you want to take as to how you can actually ship something.

Some dealers are paranoid & will not accept guns from non-FFL's, so I suggest that your description contain the phrase, "Be sure that your dealer will accept delivery from a non-licensee."
I use my LGS to ship guns, too. His listed charge is $50, but he usually charges me $25 because I am a good customer. He bought a software package that prints my receipt, prints a USPS label, & updates his computerized bound book. The mailman picks up guns by the end of the day. Fast & easy.
