Misaligned Vent Rib

REM 1187SP bought in 89
Look at this, to get my slugs or Turkey loads on target I have to move my rear sight this far to the right. I had to file metal away on the inside of the sight to get it over enough as you can see by the gap. I've been looking at purchasing another barrel and just turning this one in to a dedicated Deer and Turkey Gun. Thinking of having it cut down and re-threaded to accept my chokes. How much would a gunsmith charge for that on average? What are the pros and cons? I would then upgrade to a better adjustable sight system.

Looks like about $150 from Briley.

Try calling Mike Orlen.
This is the latest price list I've seen.
Before spending any money on this shotgun, I would take it to a full service gunsmith & pay for a "technical inspection". Maybe the rib was misaligned by the factory, or maybe the stock was not inletted correctly. Your gun was made during a period when Remington QC was not very good. You have to know what is wrong before you can fix it.
