FFL transfer fees

I was paying $10 for a transfer a year ago and that was waved if you made a purchase from the dealer. Today a transfer is running $50 no exceptions. Add that to taxes, shipping and handling, credit card fees and a mandatory background check fee of $10 and I’m looking at over $200 on top of the purchase price, what are you paying?

20-25 in my area of Texas.
$10-$35 for a transfer. Depends on if it is a new gun from the dealer, or a private party transfer. Go over to the auction side and click on buyer tools, and then select an FFL. It will list FFL's in your area once you enter your zip code. You can then view the ones who have their FFL's on file with GB, and shop around for pricing.
$25 since my FFL now has to have an Illinois FFL along with the federal one also which cost more money.
That is awesome I’d never ran across that feature, great information thank you.
You need to move and find another FFL holder.
Folks hang on, it ain't going to go good for firearms sales and transfers in the good ole USA.
Zero, my FFL does it for free.😊
I charged $25.00.
My previous FFL was $15 & I always gave him $20. But this prima-dona was moodier then your ex-wife going thru menopause. New FFL is $10 & I'll still give him $20.
my time is worth 20.00 and i am swamped
I charge $10 and have done so for a long time. Maybe it's time to bump it a little.
ATE rules are to lock threads at 10 replies, but I'll move this to GD for more discussion. I'm especially interested to hear if dealers have hiked their transfer prices.
Ken Lewis: we have forum members who cry like babies if their previous thread is moved. I'm hoping that you'll deal with it better than they do 😉
Mine charges $15 per gun.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
$35, no background check fee.
my old FFL buddy would do it for free he never ask any one as far as I know but I always gave him 20.00 he would sell me guns If I ordered one at his cost but I would always give him money for that also he is a good guy likes about every hobby and fun to talk with but he is about twenty some odd miles one way from me ,
my youngest son got his FFL a few years ago I have not ask what he charges if I guessed I would say 20.00 to be safe next time I see him I will ask just curiosity now .
I have seen a lot of gun shops on you tube saying they are staying open by the transfer fees as they can not get guns in to sell . also the profit margin on a gun is not so much on most common guns but a transfer is just paper work and easy money compared to stocking and selling a gun .
What is this tax you are referring to? 20 bucks out the door.
We charged on a sliding scale .preferred regular customers from $0 to $20 depending on volume of business Strangers off the street $35 .
My LGS charges $10 to everyone, except for his friends and regular customers. They get a free ride.
I pay $20 for long guns, $30 for handguns
We do $10. Keeping thinking we should go up to $20 but we've been kicking around the idea for a couple years and have just never pulled the trigger on it.
Mine just bumped his fee from $20, to $25!
I buy a lot of C&R guns so haven't had to seek a Class 1 FFL transfer for a few months. The last time I did one was with a small dealer who does transfers for $20 for one gun or two or more -- just one price. I switched to him because my previous transfer guy (a gunshow friend) died. Another guy I've used was charging $20 for one or two guns, but now is at $25 for the first gun and $5 more for each additional gun. Still not outrageous, but I fear what will happen if laws get passed making every private sale a background-check, transfer situation. It could damage a lot of small gun shows in rural areas where folks come in once a year to sell old guns for maybe $100 or $150 or so. Buyers will really hesitate if they know they'll have to pay another $50 for a gun, and sellers aren't going to knock $50 off the price of a $100 old bolt-action .22. Like it or not, that's how a lot of buyers and sellers will react in my area (southern MN). Your experience may vary.
The FFL dealer I used charged me $20 for transfers . If more than one gun went on the form it was still $20. If I bought a new gun he could get I bought it from him, he provided good service and I retuned that with being a good customer. Unfortunately for me he moved and I had to find a new dealer, we'll see how that works out but the charge is the same $20.
$30 here but my FFL only does transfers doesn't sell any guns.
More dealers out here are charging $50 per transfer. I do not advertise or put the word out that we do transfers here....we just do it for friends and we do not charge them anything. If we were a store and had random people sending things to us I'd probably charge around $25.....maybe $30.
This was mentioned before but some states don't charge IF you have as right to carry permit!! Anyone have as list of those states?
pawn shop has been doing all my transfers for 4 years---$15 per. he likes the easy money, i enjoy BS'ing with him while he does the transfe
In the Demokratik People's Republik of Kalifornia you are hard pressed to find one who will do it for less than $100. On top of that add sales tax @ around 9% & the state DROS fee. The dealers act like you are stealing the bread from their children's mouths because you didn't buy the gun from them.
Mine charges $15 and I always give him $20. I want him to be glad to see me come back. When he can get what I want, I buy from him first. Older stuff he is happy to transfer for me.
