the two neighbors across the street were having their yards marked by the utility company. we had about 1-2 of snow and the gas company just painted yellow lines, arrows, right on the snow. few hours later water company came out did same with blue paint. this morning we got maybe 3-4 inches more on top of what we had. come to find out one neighbors sewer collapsed and thats why the markings. this morning a crew shows up at the other neighbors to put up a chain link fence!. I was shoveling the drive and one of the boys asked me if I knew if the utilities had been there yet, I just laughed and told him what happened, and if he wanted a snow shovel to dig out the lines I would let him borrow one. guess he called his boss and they are not happy, no flags just painted snow.

well the boys are in the side now digging postholes by hand! I don't know if they are that devoted or that hard up for work/money. the one boy did say they were on their way back out to mark utilities again. I have a feeling someone got a good chewing out at the utility company........

There are some jobs that just need to wait until conditions improve. Of coarse, emergencies do happen and there are a plethora of quick fixes to get you by until the job can be done proper.

Worked for a company that drilled soil cores for analysis of the soils, so we dealt with Miss Utility every day. We had one job that required us to drill in a river, and I knew there was an underwater phone cable. Called Miss Utility, requested cable owner to contact us for co-ordination. She explained that they would have someone come out and put paint marks down where the cable was. We were 400 yards offshore in the Potomac River. Asked where did they get floating paint?

And yes, have seen painted snow before. Duh.

My dogs have been out painting yellow markings in the snow. I don't think they have any plans to do any fence work though.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
