The car I gave my schizophrenic brother is now dead.
My family is trying to figure out how to get him a vehicle with limited funds to do so. The old dealership I worked for took a 09 Camry in on trade and the owner is trying to help with a price of $3,500 for me.
The car is clean, it needs brakes, it needs a battery, we have a battery from brothers dead car that will work. The Camry has128K miles on it.
My concern is the 2.4 engine of that year has had big issues with oil consumption. Should we try to find a different car because of the oil consumption issue on some of these engines.
I was flabbergasted to see how many drivers with this car and engine NEVER check the oil until the light comes on.

I have an 07 and it burns about a pint of oil between oil changes(4500 miles). So far its been a good car. It has 88K on it, I got with 55k 2 years ago. I check the oil at every other fill up.
Check and make sure it had the 100.000 mile checkup...If it has there should be a sticker in the engine compartment stating so...They usually replace of the alternator and drive belt/chain++...that will cost you another $15-2000 bucks...

low tension piston rings. some engineer thought this would be a good idea to help with fuel mielage. should be no problem as long as you keep it full of oil, of course the cat. will eventually clog up.
I'd find something else.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Toyota must have fixed the 2.4 engine for 2010. Have one in my Tacoma and it's still going strong. A minor issue only but not with oil consumption.
Mine burns a pint every 1,000 miles.
I got a high mileage Aveo that needs a water pump, a/c is iffy, but engine & tranny recently serviced. Could be yours for 50 rounds of .22 LR
My Moms Corolla S 2005 is most likely going to get sold soon. No rust for being a northern car with only 54k on it.
