I now have an SQL server and we've got someone working on a database for us....another step forward!
I'm more than ready for this thing to be done. Before anyone asks any questions.....the answer is "I don't know, I'll have to ask."
What I do know is we NEED this thing. Any of you that are doing regular business should think about getting it done too. This database will make it where the transactions, inventory, customers info, and invoices are all kept up with and things will be very searchable by several parameters.
Logging things into our bound books will still have to happen because I dealt with electronic A&D books before and it was like having an iceberg coming right at your ship....you have no clue what problems were there until you printed that mess out and put your hands on everything.
The guy writing the program keeps saying things to me....like I have any clue what he is saying? I've got to get my brother to translate things....and we've got to find a second guy to do a website so we can access the data (according to the guy I cannot understand at all.)
As we go along things grow in ways you don't see coming. I remember getting a fax machine.....setting up to take credit cards.....getting an actual photo set up (so I wasn't taking the guns outside for the good light)....then the shelves that seemed overboard because who would EVER need that much shelving.....then getting more shelves.....the second computer, second employee and second desk.....the third computer, third employee and third desk....the upgraded light system.....now a server and database (which should have been something we did several steps ago.)
Whats next????

Support contracts....
Would Quickbooks not work for you? We're running near a million in sales and for 60$ a months it's awesome. We're not in gun sales though.
Hitech before long you might be like the Amazon of Gun sales!
expensive hobby.........
I don’t know what you said but good for you.
We use Quickbooks for our taxes and accounting, but when we went over what we needed it was decided that a server with a database was the better option. Right now we are keeping up with everything with Excell spreadsheets. Its a lot of work for each person that does their part, but when we are able to mesh each other's work into one format it will make things go a lot better. The logging customers consignments in, creating listings, collecting payments and FFLs, shipping to buyers, paying consignors is all something that will be accessible to each person here and the inventory will be so much more manageable and searchable.
Now that you have all that computing power can you tell me if the guns will have a box and the approximate round count?
