A volcanic eruption in Iceland 'could be imminent' after more than 18,000 earthquakes hit the island in the past week, authorities have warned.
On Wednesday alone, there were about 2,500 earthquake detected and since midnight on Thursday almost 800 earthquakes measured, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO).
The largest earthquake measured magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale, which is enough to cause 'some damage to weak structures'.
The sudden burst in seismic activity has been centred around Reykjanes Peninsula, a densely populated region in southwest Iceland just south of capital city Reykjavík.
Icelandic authorities are now expecting two volcanoes on the Reykjanes Peninsula – Mount Keilir and Mount Fagradalsfjall – to erupt in the coming hours.

After reading the article, it sounds like they don't expect a violent, ash producing big bang, but rather a lava flow like we see often in places like Hawaii. If that happens it won't have much, if any, effect on anyplace but Iceland. The one you should be concerned about is the Yellowstone super volcano. If that ever lets go, civilization as we know it will end worldwide. Bob
There does seem to be an increase in seismic activity in various parts of the world. I don't know exactly HOW concerning this Icelandic stuff is... they've had active volcanoes for years and years there and even have seen some new islands form.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

18000 in a week.. that is 2571 a day.. or 107 an hour.
At 2 tremors a minute how does one tell one from another?
Talk about a disturbance in The Force! That's a little too much shakin' for me.
Elvis may be there
And now New Zealand. Greece earlier. This is nuts!

Mt. Hood here in Oregone had a flurry of tiny tremors earlier this week.
That many earthquakes would make it hard to stand up and walk with the ground shaking all the time.
When I lived in Alaska I was in many earthquakes. Most of them you only know about because the local radio/TV stations reported them. 99% you either cannot feel or you must be sitting quietly to feel them. Biggest I was ever in rattled the plates in the kitchen for maybe 10-15 seconds.
I remember the Sylmar Earthquake in LA in the 70's. I was just a kid and it was scary.
Here is a nice site to visualize activity.

We typically have a few small quakes in Missouri, most you can't feel, but some will rattle things.

Maybe Jerry Lee as well.
I bet that Quisp and Quake are at it again! 😁
