Shirley Love (Mr.) was one of the announcers. He went on to serve West Virginia in Congress.

Use to go watch rastlin @ the Chase in St.Louis. Afterwards stop by White Castle for a big ol sack of gutt pluggers to go.

Then in 2 weeks you could the rastlin show you were at, on channel 11 . The good ol days.

wrestling at the Chase brought forth many announcers that went onto better TV gigs. that show ran for many years. local wrestling promotions have moved to the independent circuit, still have events at the SOUTH SIDE SPORTS BAR down by the Anhueser Brewery on Broadway avenue

as a kid (and hillbilly LOL ) watched it as much as most I would guess , I use to love to fight and wrestle and using holds like the camel clutch on the neighbor kids well they did not like it ..

surprising ( not really ) a lot of my family watch it we would even go to the Piqua armory to watch them some local and always a few top name do draw in the crowds

    a couple stories

I had a great uncle no one would sit beside him when he watched as you would end in in a head lock at least he would get so involved

one I remember very well we (as in about a dozen family cousins uncles aunts and so on) we went to the local show one Saturday night of course there was always the bad guy who cheated when the ref was not looking this night it was the zebra one of the fellows in a zebra striped head to toe outfit . of course the crowd was booing and yelling look, look ,

well two of my 2nd cousins and one aunt they were about 20 / 25 yrs old then I would guess I was about 13 any way they had enough of the bad guy they took there fingernail files up to the ring when he got close to the ropes they put a few holes in his leggs he was bleeding and yelling my family made a quick get away to say the least ....

some years later I worked with two big fellows brothers the younger one worked out and really was in great shape any way there story sitting ring side one bout the younger of the brothers and there is family were watching and well same thing the bad guy was winning . he told me he was getting mad and a bit drunk and beer muscles took over he ran up to the ring punched the bad guy and jumped into the ring

he told me he knew he was in trouble as he hit the fellow hard and he did not even flinch , but picked him up tossed him about 4 rows back into the crowd , to save face my buddy said I was yelling let me go let me go I show him , the wrestler yelled out let him go motioned to come on back in . he told me there was no way any one was going to get him back in the ring with that fellow so he played out the family was holding him back LOL .

back then trying to tell my family it was fake and just a show , might as well talked to a rock

I was a huge rassling fan for years. I also liked Roller Derby.

Haystack Calhoun, Black Jack Mulligan now those were some wrestlers!

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Ox Baker was one of my favorites.

I ate BBQ at Abdulla the Butchers BBQ joint in Atlanta.

When I was a kid we would go to the rassling matches in Atlanta, either at the Omni or the Coliseum. I remember some great matches there.

My mother went to school with Handsome Harley Race, later King Harley Race.

She said he was a "bully farm kid"

I'm watching it right now just 'cause it's Fri night WrestleMania...............not quite like when I was a kid. Back then it was "Solid Gold" followed by wrestling every Saturday night. Waaayyyyyyy back in the 80's......lol

I seem to remember the "lady's matches " but nothing ever fell out 😉 on TV any way LOL so that was short lived for me also have no idea if they still do

but then who would want to date one and get into a fight any way especially now with the MMA ? fighters like Rhonda R, she looks nice but my gosh what a tough gal
