Richardson Duelling Pistols
Pennsylvania
Member Posts: 3 ✭
Hi, folks. I inherited a pair of Scottish dueling pistols. Percussion locks. The stocks are ornately engraved metal, which I believe to be silver. The lockplates are marked "Richardson, Edinburg". Ram's head butts. Ball trigger with no trigger guard. I am wondering what they are worth.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, posting photos might be a good place to start.
How do I do that? Thanks.
Take the pictures you want and put them in your picture file on your computer. Then in the text box you type in when you are making a post, there are some icons in the lower left corner. Click on the second icon from the left, which is "upload image". It will take you to your picture files. Select the the picture you want, and click on the "open" button you see. The picture(s) will appear in your post
Those look pretty nice.
I don't know anything about those but gosh they sure look good. You will need a real expert somewhere other than Pawn Stars to have those checked out.
I would contact one of the large auction houses.
You can try IMA. https://www.ima-usa.com/ Depending on where you are in Pa? it could be a reasonable drive. Just be careful as they're in New Jermany.
More likely to be belt or coat pistols than duelers. Circa 1840. Do they have belt hooks on the reverse side?
It appears that the hammer spurs have been ground down, perhaps to prevent snagging.
I did find a cased set of Richardson, Edinburgh wood-gripped pistols which sold for 1600 GBP + 20% buyer's premium + 5% Online buyer's fee. Total cost: 2000 GBP. At today's rare, this would be $2740 US.
I think your guns are nicer than the cased pair just described, except for the hammer spurs. How much this would devalue the guns is anyone's guess.
