Stuck case out, wood dowel still stuck....update. Dowel is finally out.
Try putting rifle into your safe. If you have a dehumidifier let it pull some moisture out of the wood. Try for one week. This will shrink the wood, and hopefully it will be easier to remove. I agree don't put anymore wood in the barrel to dislodge your problem. Good luck.
Not wasting any time actually. Last night I made some reloads for my competition rifle, today I was off and went to the range to test them out. I was very pleased with the results. Then I went home and replaced a door frame/molding that was starting to get rot at the bottom (outside door to my garage).
I found it's always good to have two or three little projects going on at a time. That way I can take a break from one when I hit a road block or get frustrated.
I have used a grease gun with a zerk fitting on percussion muzzle loading barrels to pump out obstructions before. Unfortunately, there is no place to screw such a fitting into a modern type barrel.
Well....the brass rod finally arrived. The brass rod mic'ed at 0.219 inches it fit very snug down the barrel.
The rifle has been in an air conditioned room for the past two plus weeks so hopefully the dehumidified air helped shrink the rod. I had to repeatedly hammer the rod. The wooden dowel came out in multiple broken pieces. It had wedged up on the other one over a period of about 3 1/2 inches.
I am extremely glad to have this rod out. Had to leave the house to take the sons to scouts tonight. When I get home I will clean out the barrel and see how it looks.
I am very proud that on my third post I correctly diagnosed that the wooden dowel rod had sheared and wedged tight in the bore. Does this mean that I get to be the resident forum gun smith?

Send it to Chuck Norris. He will stare it out.

Well??? UPS show up with the brass rod yet??
We are all anxiously waiting for the arrival of that brass rod.-----------------------Ray
LoL! Well, it's not the first and likely won't be the last.
Because of the delay I took the opportunity to mount and properly torque a new scope and set of rings on a buddy of mine's rifle.
I'll make up some test/zero loads for it tomorrow.

Persistence pay off. Glad you got it out.
You 'da man! Where is all the band music and parade?
Just joking kidthatsirish. You sure are a patient man. 😀
Glad you got it. Get 'er cleaned up and check the barrel closely.
Indeed...now I just hope that the upgraded trigger I got for it will truly fix the issues I am having with the bolt.
I will say...I am going to keep this rod though...it may prove very useful again some day.
The other thing I'm going to do is refinish the crown, which I was actually planning on doing anyway. So hopefully it all works.
Really happy that you got it out. I have to say though that this has been an interesting thread. Be safe and shoot straight
how you gonna get the brass rod out???

The BIG question is, are you going to sign up to be a Merit Badge Counselor for Riflery?
BE PREPARED.
I would say that Kidthatsirish has earned his Merit Badge and is now Prepared with his custom fitted brass rod at the ready.--------------Ray
😁
Glad it worked out for you.
