ammo availability

JimmyJackJimmyJack Member Posts: 5,516 ✭✭✭✭

Mgr. at Fleet Farm told me today the shipments are improving. He gets 3 to 5 shipments a week, and it is lasting longer. I bought a box of Winch Super X .22LR (50) For 10.99 to add to a rifle Im giving away. Six or eight other calibers on the shelf. That price was crazy but I wanted a new box.

I hope that quantities continue to improve. If that happens perhaps the prices will get back to normal. Judy and I need to find 20 cases of target loads for our yearly sporting clays charity shoot. So far I am only finding small quantities available and for twice or more what they were selling for last year. Since every extra dollar spent comes out of the charity proceeds, I am reluctant to buy any right now. If prices go down and availability goes up I'll be a hero. If prices go up and I can't find enough, I'll be the goat. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me. Bob

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

look on the internet no shortage I have seen it all for sale the problem its 2x - 4x more some times the cost of what it should be . not like the shortage several years ago nothing could be found then now its out they by the cases sadly just how willing people are to pay the crazy prices

why the local places like wallly world or mom and pops GS stay empty there still selling at " normal prices " only to be bought out and resold on the secondary market more often than not . some % are personal use I am sure

I have noticed the internet prices have been slightly dropping over the last two weeks which is good with millions of new gun owners trying to get a supply and a lot more current gun owners just buying to increase there stock pile

I have seen a lot of youtubers posting daily there run to the sporting goods store buy what ever they can every day and make several stops on the same day to all the places near them . and brag about what they and display like a trophy on there table's some they even say they do not have a gun for the caliber but buy it any way just because

a secondary off shoot happens to be ammo cans are selling better than ever its been reported all the people buying ammo want to store it , some buy the ammo can because that's all they can find and buy it now so later on they may be a shortage on them and why waste a trip to the store and hope to fill it later .

the more the white house keeps screaming laws and ban and limits this cycle I do not see coming to a end

JMHO there has to many CC maxed out by now on ammo and guns .

$10.99 for a 50 round box? That would be about $110/brick. Plus $6 or so more for tax. Outrageous! I'm sure you can get it for less than that on here.

Well, I just looked and it seems a brick of .22 LR is going for $75 to $130 plus tax, shipping (usually $20) and credit card fee. So I guess he was in the ball park.

Think I have more than that rolling around under the seat of my truck.

Ive got plain white boxes of .22 lr that was military based and I paid about seven bucks a brick. Ive got it in pails too but I wanted a new name brand box for a kid with his first .22. Im giving him a 10/22 Ruger stainless with Mannlicher stock. Its scoped, and I havent fired two boxes through it.Seems like everyone here has more than enough guns, and its time to make a kid happy. Ive giving him the option of that or a Henry carbine. Going to talk down the hammer gun, not the best for a young kid as far as Im concerned.

Made my rounds wed to the local gun shops etc . Little to no ammo except for oddball calibers unless buying a new Gun then a few boxes available with the gun . ONly dealer with reloading supplies down to less than 30 to 40 bottles of powder . What he has is very limited in use . NO primers within60 miles

I have been watching and wanting to pick up 300 black out when it was .85 I passed it went to 1.35 / 1.40 but now low is about 1.15 so its slowly dropping most all popular rounds have came down 10 to 30 cents over the last week or so

still too high but headed in the right direction or at least it was now with this shooting and the soap box speeches It will go crazy again I fear

Since the ammo mess started, I have resorted to shooting my muzzle loaders exclusively. I just bought 10 pounds of black powder over the internet from a distributer for just under 25 bucks a pound including Hazmat, taxes, and shipping charges. I have enough lead and all the right molds to keep my shooting as active as ever.

The "ammo shortage" is nothing more than poor planning by consumers. I have no sympathy for those who aren't(weren't) prepared.

  • mohawk600mohawk600 Member Posts: 5,529 ✭✭✭✭

I prepared for a "shortage" years ago. I have enough ammo for one or two range sessions and then I can just buy more. I'm good.🤣
